No more cameo appearances by Stan Lee in all of the Marvel movies. It was inevitable. Age 95.

What a guy! Really, his obituary belongs in various categories. "I used to think what I did was not very important," he told the Chicago Tribune in April 2014. "People are building bridges and engaging in medical research, and here I was doing stories about fictional people who do extraordinary, crazy things and wear costumes. But I suppose I have come to realize that entertainment is not easily dismissed."His life would make a good movie. www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/stan-lee-marvel-comics-legend-721450

Fans of Stan Lee will be happy to learn that he will continue to appear in the next three Marvel movies, since his scenes were already filmed.

I just heard this and was truly shocked that he was only 77 as was my husband who commented "I didn't know he was still alive".
We were both huge fans of his films and he was an inspiration to many, many filmmakers and was a real groundbreaker. His films were beautiful to put it simply. The cinematography stunning.
Having grown up in the tumultuous political climate of the 19060's in Italy had a huge influence on him most especially in the film The Conformist which is one of my favorites and was a real "wake up" call to me when I saw it at a young age.
I can remember that whenever I heard a Bertolucci film was screening or in the makes I always made a point of seeing it.
A major loss.
RIP Bernardo.

I thought he was a lot older, too, especially since he had been an invalid for at least the last 10 years.

I read that he was working on a new film in the Wikipedia profile.
(He died from lung cancer).

Yet another famous film director has left us within the last 24 hours although, not as young in age. Nichloas Roeg, age 90.
I positively loved his film The Man Who Fell to Earth which starred David Bowie.

Maria Pacôme Such a formidable actress, more into theatre than movies. A part of my youth goes with her. I remember watching 'Au théâtre ce soir' a series of filmed theatre plays that you could see on TF1. Maria Pacôme and Jean Lepulain were fantastic, it was such a pleasure to watch these plays. 'Le noir te va si bien' was one of those plays that we watched as family.
She was 94.

Actually, today was her 95th birthday apparently.
I also thought she was amazing in those plays, but she was quite good in a number of movies, too.

I see that Sondra Locke is gone. She was with Clint Eastwood for about ten years until they turned on each other.

I just read her wikipedia entry. Rather horrible that she survived lung cancer which had metastasized to her brain, but died of complications of diabetes.
Even though I was never a huge fan, I always found her very impressive.

Yes, I think they were married for 10 years. There's a tribute from him on her wikipedia page.

I can't really say that I was a fan per say but, like Bixa, I did admire her.
I was not aware that she had directed Awakenings which I thought was a brilliant adaptation of Oliver Sach's treatise on the topic of geriatric patients who were virtually "lifeless".
This movie hit a very personal note with me as I was working with an Alztheimer/Dementia population at that time and my own personal struggle and frustration with the lack of resources available and how it ultimately defeated my attempts at trying to implement alternative treatments available.

I was never, even as a child on into adulthood much of a TV viewer save very special movies ( The Wizard of Oz, Gone With the Wind)and a select few TV series. (My husband always says I must be a "Communist" because I had/have never seen even one episode of Bonanza among many other mainstream TV series). I do confess to being a fan of Zorro.

Not even Twilight Zone? Hitchcock (was it on Sundays?) M*A*S*H? Laugh-In? Carol Burnett? Archie Bunker (All in the Family) I Love Lucy? Dick Van Dyke show?
If not, you have some catching up to do, casi! ;-)

(Colorised) Zorro is still on French TV every Sunday evening just before the news. OH WOW!!!!!! Kimby, yes, I have watched some of those you mentioned but never on a regular basis. Many of those shows e.g. M*A*S*H* I watched because my husband was a fan and yes, I loved The Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock but again, not rabidly. PBS might well be the exception, (Prime Suspect...) and then, when we had a free subscription to HBO I became addicted to Homicide: Life On the Streets which I have waxed on about in other threads. So, there have been some exceptions. In general though I would not categorize myself as a TV person per say.

Cinema and theatre would die without all of the character actors/actresses who keep the industry going. They never got the top roles that they certainly wanted, but they stuck it out for 40 or 60 years or more and made a huge number of films and plays so much better.
