Switzerland being a small country, it doesn't have all that many celebrities in the international acting world. Marthe Keller and Ursula Andress are still alive, but the latter retired around 2005. I just saw Marthe Keller in a new movie, but she is much less active than she used to be.
Among younger Swiss actors, at least there are still Thomas Jouannet and Kacey Mottet Klein.

So, Luke Perry is gone. Not a really big star but nevertheless quite symbolic to a certain generation.

Quite a shock as he was in his 50’s and had a massive stroke. Mr. Kimby wonders if he had A-fib, a heart rhythm problem linked to increased risk of stroke.

Her death was the lead story on the Radio-Canada news here. Many-faceted body of work.

Her death was the lead story on the Radio-Canada news here. It was practically the only story on the midday news here -- who cares about Brexit or Algeria compared to Agnès?
She only had one 'smash hit' in her entire career -- Vagabond (Sans toit ni loi) -- but she pointed out quite lucidly in one of the interview fragments that she was well aware that she had become part of people's lives in her body of work because the most common thing that strangers in the street said to her was "thank you."

www.theguardian.com/film/2019/mar/29/agnes-varda-french-new-waveI'll have to see Cléo de 5 à 7 again. I was very young when I first saw it, and while of course I understood flirtation and awaiting a serious diagnosis (my father died of lung cancer when I was 15, after a litany of smoking-related illnesses) there are obviously certain aspects that passed over my head. Oh, I'm sure there will be retrospectives.

It's strange how sometimes "minor" actors strike a chord with the public. The day they die affects people much more than top stars, simply because they were more like us. Today the French actress Anémone died, and it made top headlines in all of the French and Belgian media. She did indeed win a Best Actress César in 1988, but it was almost an accident -- a small film about peasants. The main thing I remember about it is that she knew how to skin a rabbit exactly like my grandfather did. That already helps to make a connection with real life. She was basically a comic actress, known for unpredictable weirdness. That was another endearing trait. There will be no newspapers in France tomorrow (May Day), but I'm quite sure that on Thursday there will be huge articles about her career.

Easier to replace than Carrie Fisher. After all, R2-D2 (Kenny Baker) died 3 years ago. That leaves C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) to carry on.

His lush Romeo and Juliet hit the screens when I was a hormonal adolescent. Our English teacher took the whole class on a school bus to see it, because Shakespeare.
I was in love with that movie.

I was just thinking about Zeffirelli's R&J the other day, because I got to go to Cinecittà in Rome, a major treat. There were costumes and posters from that movie and I was remembering how it was supposed to be such a big departure that Zeffirelli showed them as they adolescents they really were in the play. For real verisimilitude, though, he would have needed to cast even younger actors.
