I'm pretty sure Photobucket's deal works out better than the $2 a month you're paying ImageShack, although I don't remember how much it is.
I got that same letter from Image Shack that you got, Kimby. It's been ages since I've used their service, so I just ignored it.
Photobucket does give you more of everything with their premium service and I can see that my hosted photos actually look like my pictures. With the free service, I felt there was a loss of quality.

I opened an email from Image Shack this week saying I have almost reached my 500 photo limit and from now on I will have to pay annually. I am reluctant to do this as what happens when I stop paying ...all photos are sent to 'Image Shack Heaven" What a waste of my time and effort. I am so glad this post has come up Bixa - and I think it's time for a change to Photo Bucket!

Image shack claims your photos aver 500 uploads will go away on the first of the month after reaching the limit. If you are under 500 images, they should stay there and be fine.
They also will allow you to download all of your stored images. But you probably already have them all on your computer or camera chips or backup DVDs or CDs so why would you want to do this?

Hi guys - advice please If possible I would really like to post my pics direct from Picasa but even having read the below I cannot do this as I cannot work out how to get an url ending in JPG . Any suggestions gratefully received.
THE PICASA PROBLEM The issue here is that images are being linked to a secure server (https), if you remove the s from the https on linked images, they should display fine

I have worked out how to get to the url within my Picasa albums so I thought I would post here in case others are struggling
1. Obviously you have to have up-loaded to the web to create a web album 2. Ensure the album security is not private eg set to anyone with the link (If it is set to private you will not get the option to create a link when you click on the photo.) 3. In the Picasa web album, click on the picture you want to post. 4.On the right side of the new window, click on "Link to this Photo." 5. Select the size of the photo 6. Select Image only (no link) 7. Click on the Embedded Image URL and copy it. 8. Post to forum but then you need to remove the extra "s" from the "https" at the start of the url
Hope that makes sense

Hi Lugg ~~ apologies for not having seen your question about jpg in Picasa earlier. Thanks for the tips. If you'd like to streamline that process, try this method. It will work on albums that are set to Private, as well. Directions for Chrome: 1. Either click on a thumbnail to open it, or right-click & choose Open Link in New Tab. a) if you've opened the thumbnail, right-click on the full-size picture & choose Copy Image URL. b) if you've opened the picture in a new tab, just copy the url from the browser bar. 2. Paste url in message box here, remove the s after the http, click on the image button, & you're done. It's slightly different for Firefox and for Internet Explorer. For those, follow 1a above, then right-click on the picture & choose the respective options as shown below. After that, proceed with step 2 above. for Firefox ~for Internet Explorer ~

Thanks Bixa really helpful
That is a faster method unless I have to re-size. What I have discoverered is although the url obtained through clicking on properties (I use IE ) does not end in JPG it does not matter - it will still post with the additional letters/numbers
eg The url I receive has ?gl=GB after JPG

Anybody here using Tinypic? I used to use it and just started to upload photos I took last week. But -- if I try to upload 5 at a time, the resize option no longer exists. And once the pic is uploaded, the modifying (like rotating the pic) is no longer optional!
Any better suggestions for a picture hosting site? Are you all still using Photobucket (which seems to be the owner of Tinypic)? What about Flickr?

Kodak Gallery has transferred me to Shutterfly. Though I'm using Imageshack.us for my forum photo posting, Shutterfly lets you set up a free webpage which is great for photo albums that you wish to share with others, for example, our rental home on Sanibel, Florida. I'm thinking of also posting an album of photos of a dis-used piano that we might want to sell...

Thanks, Kimby. I just signed up for Photobucket but don't see a way of uploading and reducing the size of the picture. I can't post on here in full resolution.
Is there something I don't see?
If I have to upload one at a time, I may as well go back to Tinypic. I don't understand why I can't resize 5 pics while bulk uploading any more but have to do one at a time.

Indeed, there was something I didn't see. I had also written to Tinypic to ask about their software, but they answered that they don't use it any more and advised me to move to Photobucket. Photobucket does work a lot faster than Tinypic, especially for uploading, so now I see how some of you manage to post so many pictures.

I don't resize on P'bkt, so don't know the process there. What I've found is that it's easier to google your questions about Photobucket, then click on the hits than it is to wander around P'bkt looking for the answers. That's how I found this: photobucket.com/images/batch+resize+image/ -- which is okay, but you have to open all the thumbnails, which I have considerately done for you . I haven't tried this, though.

No, but I'll definitely try it. You have no idea how many sites I've signed up for, only to ditch them almost immediately, I so much need to find a good replacement for Photobucket.
Have any of you revisited some of your own recent posts w/photos hosted by P'bucket & felt as though the quality was way down?

I registered at postimage & am deeply underwhelmed. For one thing, you're asked if your picture is "family safe" or "adult content", which tells me there are no privacy settings. For another, no bulk uploader. Also:

I only use sites like that for rehosting miscellaneous random photos anyway.

I had a look and realized from their offering that there was no privacy option so didn't even register.

OMG, Photofuckit has actually corrected one of their horrible changes in the new version -- I just uploaded some pictures and the portrait format photos actually are displayed in portrait format at last instead of landscape. This is revolutionary.

Thanks! Lemme go try it. In my desperation, I loaded Picasa, which is a tangled ball of the usual Google anti-intuitive design.

What I HATE most of all about p'bucket now is a)no bulk uploader and b) having to click to tell them that I want a url for the picture.
Did they never ever hear of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" ?

I have a lengthy picture report I want to make. All the photos have been processed, edited, & then hosted on Photobucket. So why haven't I made the report? It's because it takes five clicks just to get a picture url on pbkt now! Talk about being defeated even before beginning. Well, I think I just found a viable alternative to photobucket -- imgius.com/It's not 100% intuitive, but not very hard either. To bulk upload, you have to use the Ctrl key*, just as you do with pbkt now. There are two kinds of album views. The easiest way to get your urls is to open an album in the default view, then click above it where it says "other style of gallery". The other style displays as slides so that you can right-click on the picture & choose "copy image location" (in ff), then come here & paste. I like the way you choose your pics to upload with options right underneath for choosing either a new or existing album, plus being prompted to click "private". Private means your pictures aren't displayed anywhere on that site, but you can still use the urls to post pictures here. * To make it easier to make your photo reports here, I suggest hosting your pictures in reverse order, so that the earlier pics are first.

Using bulk url-capture to simplify thread making with Photobucket-hosted pictures: This tip is for people who keep their pictures in folders. If you're like me, you use those folders to host the pictures you need for particular threads. You'll need to keep the pertinent computer folder open in order to use this tip. First of all, watch this video: s1187.photobucket.com/user/Photobucket_Tutorials/media/PB%20Quick%20Tips/HowtoBulkLink2_zpsc4fa9520.mp4.htmlSecond, upload your pictures to the Photobucket album you'll use to make the thread. Third, open a blank Work document. Fourth, follow the directions in the video to get all the links at one time & paste them into the Word document. You can now close Photobucket. The links are numbered from 1 to whatever, in the same sequence in which you loaded them. That means you can look in your computer folder & decide that you're going to use pictures 11 through 26 in a particular post, for instance, then easily copy that block of links from the Word document and paste them into the message box. After that, intersperse your comments & spaces between the pictures, Preview, make any corrections, & then post. (It's much easier than it seems seeing it all written out like this!) ======================================================== Easier way to get links for thread-making when using ImgiusHost the group of pictures you're planning to use, then do not navigate away from the page that opens when those pictures complete uploading. You can then refer to the thumbnails, click on "direct link", then copy that result to paste in a message box here. Add image tags [/img] and you're done. However, if you are planning to create your thread in stages, only host the pictures for a particular stage when you're ready to make it. That's because once you navigate away from a page with all the thumbnails & their links, it's gone forever. (Of course you can still get the links, but it's not nearly as easy.)

There was some conversation about ImageShack having changed its format or being difficult to use.
I haven't used it in ages, but just went & checked my account there. As far as I can tell, it's easy enough to get the direct link including image tags by clicking on the letter i to the right of the thumbnail. A window opens up with the direct, image-tagged link front & center, conveniently marked "forum".
You can also get several links at one by clicking on the desired thumbnails, then selecting "get codes for forums" in the right-hand sidebar.

I haven't been posting photos much lately, Mr. Kimby's retirement has cut into my computer time, so I hadn't used Imageshack in a while. Uploaded 12 pics at once and resized them for forum. Easy peasy. I'm still mad that they are charging me now to store my photos there, and if I don't pay, all the links I've posted to photos on Any Port will become nonfunctional. It's extortion, but I couldn't begin to redo all those photos on another free site, so there you are.

Imgius, which I blithely recommended a while back, is gone. Is that why I'm seeing so many little icons where there should be fabulous bixa masterpieces?

Bixa, how are you progressing in your quest to replace the missing images that the now-departed Imgius left stranded?
I have noticed that a few of my Otis Family Farm images have gone missing. May have to upload them to Imageshack again if they aren't there next time I check on it.

I have to decide imminently if I accept to pay the new ransom that Photobucket is requesting from me, since I am up to 96.3% capacity on my basic "Pro" account. Paying the new amount would not be a huge financial burden, but one always wonders if it is worth it. If I stopped posting, would anybody even notice?
In the good news department, I am still at under 1% of my free Image Shack allotment, so I try to host all of my random individual photos there, so I'll be able to use that for a long, long time. Unfortunately, I do not have access to any of the 'improvement' Tools, so there are quite a few photos in need of serious cropping or fixing that I cannot host there.

Sheesh. Why don't you use Photoscape, which is a few trillion times better than any editing crap offered by the photo host sites, plus much more complete, less fiddly, & faster ...... & free.
Kimby, yes, yes of course it was REALLY GOOD pictures that were lost, so no one can judge my skills by the ones remaining. ;D
I've actually got a whole thread's worth hosted & ready to go, but boy is it tedious to re-do. Remember, when we do these things the first time, we're all inspired and enthusiastic. Going back, I'm stumped as to what went where.
