I suppose that the electrical box was already there, which is why the stump was sawed at that height.

That would go well in limited palette.

Made with a chain saw, right? I have one of those. It was my dad's.

Bixa, my dad bought the tacky bear from the "artist" who was down on his luck and needed cash. My dad often helped people out like that when he could. At the time of the bear purchase, my parents had a house on stilts set back off the Gulf of Mexico to the north of Kimby's beach town. The front of the cottage had a screened porch, and from the shoreline the bear looked like a person standing at the front door. My parents always swore that's why they had not been burgled. A few years after my parents died I sold the beach house. One of my sons kept the bear because it reminds all my children of dad. My son also came by a smaller version in the same way. They fit with his personality and decor more than mine.

It definitely qualifies as a stump. Many years ago on this site (isn't it nice to be able to write that?) I remember posting a video of someone making a stump sculpture (or at least a tree trunk sculpture) in just a few minutes, and it was pretty incredible.

I am always amazed at how a tree that has been totally chopped down can still issue a little sprout from its stump.

Kerouac, Am I missing something in your photos...those tree stumps look mighty healthy! Only a man with pride in his workmanship would trim the stumps so neatly - and probably only in France.

Clearly the problem must have been higher up in the trees.
I don't know if the finishing touches of those stumps show pride in workmanship or just rules about not leaving splinters or other dangerous spikes that could create a lawsuit against the city. But since they are so well done, I am willing to vote for pride.
