Looks like Peter Brook is reaching the end of his career, because tonight they are having the French theatre awards (Les Molières) tonight, and he received a special award. He barely made it onto the stage on his two legs, and he received an endless standing ovation, which is pretty much the kiss of death.
But his speech was quite energetic and also quite emotional. He made a vibrant homage to one of his principal actors Sotigui Kouyaté, who died last year -- and it's true that he was a truly stunning actor. He was remarkable in Rachid Bouchareb's Little Senegal.
I will be very sorry when Peter Brook goes, because I have seen so many of his productions at his theatre at the end of my street and I was never disappointed.
