I can't believe we don't already have a thread on this, but there's a fungus among us:

I was afraid I might discover a photo of your feet.

Nice capture, Kimby! I love the lichen on the trunk, too. That's exactly the color my house is painted -- it's called Jade (hah-day).

I'm expecting great things, fungus-wise, from this wet, wet spring!

kerouac's cute little fungi remind me of the dancing mushrooms in Disney's Fantasia.

I thought this one was a big bear scat at first: (I wonder if it's edible...)

kerouac's cute little fungi remind me of the dancing mushrooms in Disney's Fantasia. Mine were growing on the dead American soldiers at the Colleville military cemetery at Omaha Beach. Maybe those poor 18 year olds had a chance to see some Disney movies before they became fungus food.

Your last mushroom looks quite a bit like a truffle, kimby. But of course it would have been underground if it were.

Now I'm going to have to go looking for various photos already posted on other threads!

It reminds me of a morel, almost as tasty and expensive as truffles. But it would have to be a mutant if it were a morel, so I won't take any chances.

While you're looking, K2, I'll tell the good folks about "lichens" since not everyone knows what they are.
Alvin Algae was a great cook but a terrible housekeeper. Franny Fungus liked to keep house but couldn't cook to save her life. So they took a "lichen" to each other. And a lichen to a rock, and a lichen to a tree...
We used to tell that story of the symbiotic relationship between an alga and a fungus to the kids that came to our environmental education camp.

Nice, fmt! I presume these are French lichens. (How does one say "lichen" and "moss" in Francais?)

(And what do the French call the stuff you put in your hair? Or the pudding-like dessert? Both of which WE call "mousse")
