At my place of work we're always offered at 'flu jab at this time of year (as health workers). In the past I've always turned it down because I'm reasonably healthy and not considered in the at risk group (too young) ...now I'm in two minds because it's H1N1 prophylaxis that is being offered...mind you, I'm still not in the at risk groups!

But can you be contagious even if you don't get it yourself?

Just got my flu shot yesterday. They have made it exceedingly easy to get one nowadays. Every pharmacy and many supermarkets have someone on hand about 8 hours a day to administer them on demand. I got mine at Walmart. $25 USD, a tiny near painless prick and you're good to go for another flu season. Having only had flu once that I can remember, I never want to have it again.

So odd that any country makes people pay, since it is in the national interest for people to remain healthy.
Actually, here I would pay a little if my mutual insurance did not cover just about everything. Even after so many years, I still find it surprising to never have to take out my wallet at the pharmacy.

But can you be contagious even if you don't get it yourself? You have a point there...

So odd that any country makes people pay, since it is in the national interest for people to remain healthy. Indeed, odd way of going about things disincentivizing people from doing things it is professed they should. Similar thing with post secondary education, on one hand extolling its necessity then with the other throwing up significant obstructions.

In Ontario, Canada, I can say we do not pay for our Flu Shot, nor any other medical procedure actually, surgery, X-rays, MRI's, appointments, etc. are all no charge and because we each have good benefits at work, we do not pay for any prescriptions, eye glasses or dental work.
Today actually, I missed a clinic day at our Doctor's office to have our shot. Our doctor offers certain days to give the shots, you can also get the shot at clinics at the Mall and the Health Unit. They make it very convenient to ensure we all get the shot.
Cheers, Mich
