People are on vacation, have kids home from school or grandchildren visiting, or are getting household chores done before autumn.
This is a traditionally slow time of year for forums. So, if you can only dip in and out of anyport, please drop a line here to tell us what you're up to.
Me: getting ready for a trip to the States. We've had continuous rain for two weeks, so even drying laundry has been a hassle. I've gotten soaked two days in a row while out trying to buy presents.

I'm avoiding painting my kitchen. I really have to do it. (Due to major structural renovation work, I have a whole new kitchen wall - unpainted plaster).
Not planning on much travel until the autumn except an unpleasant duty trip (a memorial, in a small town not terribly far from here).
The weather has been lovely here, sunny and warm. Much appreciated in a place with nasty winters.

I am hoping to take some more days off in August -- and even try to take my mother somewhere for two days, but the damned nursing home hasn't changed her wheelchair yet. My best friend is moving to Sao Paolo next Sunday, possibly for 3 years, so today we were organizing which personal effects are going where -- either permanently or until whenever he comes back. He is looking after his daughter at the moment, and this was clearly distressing for her. The separation has been extremely acrimonious, so there is not a snowball's chance in hell of her mother allowing a visit to Brazil. She is afraid that she will never see her father again, no matter how much she is reassured. But, hey, I'm getting a new badly needed ironing board. I am also getting some valuable paintings, a convertible sofa, and the boxes of archives from the café. He also gave me one of his checkbooks with 5 signed blank checks, because I am also becoming his postal address in France. Funny, I have at least 6 checkbooks for various accounts in a drawer, but now that I have added his checkbook with the signed checks, it makes me nervous although I never gave it a second thought in the past. He showed me his new diplomatic passport. Wow.

Trying to keep up with yard and housework in two locations. And ignoring the third location, letting Sanibel take care of itself during the summer. (Hope our plantings and driveway are not TOO overrun with weeds when we return in November or December.)
Normally this time of year would be spent in planning our next big trip. Staying closer to home these days, except for visits to aging parents...

Hey, kerouac has a convertible sofa! Where is the queue for couch-surfing privileges?
One of my best friends in Paris is from Saõ Paulo. He speaks 12 languages.
Pity the daughter can't visit her dad. Separations can be just about as nasty as your average civil war...

This convertible sofa will be in addition to the three that I already own.

Just got back from a week in the southwest of France -- more west than where we live. Mostly renovation work but with some time at the beach and cycling.

I'm avoiding painting my kitchen. I so identify with that statement, as I find painting the most horrible chore. Even if you can pay someone to do it for you, there they are in your house with their horrible painting supplies. This house was freshly painted when I moved in. I'd prefer white walls to the colors chosen by the landlord, but those are the colors it will remain. I am hoping to take some more days off in August Didn't you say somewhere else that you had a big accumulation of time that you had to use up or lose? Trying to keep up with yard and housework in two locations. And ignoring the third location, letting Sanibel take care of itself during the summer. Do you all usually go to Sanibel in the summer? What is going to be the primary summer residence now? Where is the queue for couch-surfing privileges? He definitely needs to have you and me there at the same time, LaGatta, and his response to you is an obvious invitation. Just got back from a week in the southwest of France When asked the question, "What are you doing this summer?", this is the response most people would choose to give. ;D

I can't really afford to have it done, and there is no reason I can't do it myself - hell, one of my useless degrees is in fine arts.
I intend to paint it a pristine white too, perhaps a white with a hint of another hue. There is a large ficus benjamina tree in my kitchen...
But I'm just dreading moving everything out of the kitchen...

I need to go to the electronics & appliance store and buy a new TV, a new washing machine, a new air conditioner and a new printer.
For some odd reason, the brain cells devoted to my bank account seem to be creating psychological delay tactics.

I have a distinct recall of you having to buy a new one a couple of years ago. In fact, I think there's even a thread in here somewhere about it....

Yes, and I never bought it. I've been going to the laudromat downstairs, but this must come to an end sooner or later. (But the machines at the laudromat are so powerful, sophisticated and in such perfect working condition at all times that I will miss them.)
