La Maison Rouge in Paris is currently having an exhibition devoted to 70 different artists from Winnipeg. I am certainly hoping to check it out some time before the end of September. La Maison Rouge

Oh, you really need a real Winnipegian (?) to come over there and accompany you through the exhibit.
I could read the whole thing! *preen* Are poupées dolls or puppets, please?

Poupées are dolls (puppets are marionnettes). I was waiting for somebody to say "Oh, I didn't know Winnipeg was big enough to have 70 artists!"

From Canadian Dimension...
And it’s true — about the art; Winnipeg’s arts scene punches well above its weight. In fact, artists are one of Winnipeg’s primary cultural exports. Montreal’s art scene is well populated — colonized, really — with Winnipeg expats.

Temperature, humidity to hit fever pitch today

WINNIPEG -- You can treat all that heat in the past few days as just a prelude to today -- the main event -- when the temperature is expected to reach as high as 37 C.
Add in the humidity level and that will feel like 48, according to The Weather Network. That’s nine degrees warmer than body temperature.
Despite the lighting crashes over the north of the city early this morning, weather experts expect the sky to clear, so that the sun can hit us with full force. There will also be a UV index of 10, which is very high.
Get ready for a bit of a break Wednesday: the forecast calls for a high temperature of 29 C, with a 60 per cent chance of showers to cool things off.
Both Thursday and Friday will see a return to sun and reasonable highs, in the mid 20s.
There’ll be rain on Saturday with a high of 26 C, and then sunny skies and 30 C on both Sunday and Monday.
From the CTV...
Winnipeg may be known as the mosquito capital of Canada, but this year, it appears the city might temporarily lose that title to Edmonton.
Mosquito numbers are way down in Winnipeg, thanks to a cool spring and a dry July. For the first time in years, delighted local residents say they are even skipping the bug spray some mornings.
"Normally, you're walking through a field and you're swinging your hands around and trying to keep alive for an hour standing in a field. Now, there's absolutely nothing bugging us," local resident Peter Philips tolds CTV Winnipeg.
In Edmonton, meanwhile, the city is swarming with the bloodsuckers. The Alberta city is currently swatting away more mosquitoes than it has in a decade. The pesky bugs even forced the Edmonton Eskimos football team to move indoors for practice this week.
And, after recent heavy rain, there's no relief on the horizon yet for Edmonton.
City officials have been trapping nuisance female mosquitoes and say the average trap count suddenly rose to about 30 this week, from 17 last week.
In Winnipeg, meanwhile, the trap count is at six. That's way down from the 10-year average for this time in the season of 50.
But local officials say Winnipeg traps and counts its mosquitoes somewhat differently from other cities.
With more hot and dry weather in the forecast for Winnipeg, it appears low "skeeter" numbers will continue for a while yet. But things could change quickly.
Even a single dumping of few millimetres of rain that soaks the soil still could allow dormant mosquito eggs to hatch into adults within a few days. And once those adults emerge, they'll be looking for blood.

"Mosquito Capital" is one title that most cities probably do not try to win.

"Mosquito Capital" is one title that most cities probably do not try to win. Right up there with "murder capital" - another title we recently rescinded to Edmonton as well. I suspect we will regain the title this year with this incident over the weekend along with an expected brutal biker war to boost our rating...
