I googled it and concluded it was (probably) not a scam.
From Google, I clicked into a Facebook help page that said I needed to enable two-factor authentification. Once I did, I was sent a 6 digit number to my cell phone, entered that code and boom! Facebook was back to normal. On all my devices.
Hope I haven’t unleashed something evil into my online world.

My trauma of the day is my left knee hurting. I was up to know the only one in the family not to have problems with the knees and maybe my luck ran out. I will see. Bah. It is all part of the privilege of getting older.

Petty verging on serious: United cancelled our flight because a door blew out of a similar plane. We rebooked - and extended our rental vehicle - and now just received notification that THIS flight was cancelled, too! Scrambling to rebook again, but seats are scarce. Lotta folks in our situation.

It could be worse. At least you can stay in your own house and not have to pay for a hotel.

Could be worse- they could put us on a plane that falls apart mid air! I’m glad they’re fixing the problem, but they could be handling it better.
They have cancelled our rebooked United flight (another Max plane, a day later) again, and then rebooked us at our request on Delta (Airbus). But since Pearl flies with us, we had to call Delta to get her added to our reservation. Delta has no record of our reservation.
Mr. Kimby has spent the entire day on phone or computer trying to fix this. United says they booked our flights on Delta and our travel agent was able to see the Delta reservation in the United record. United says they “booked” us with Delta, but haven’t received confirmation from Delta. Whatever that means.
The travel agent says that because United made the reservation and is paying for it, it is as if it’s a United flight, but operated by Delta, so she thinks we should go to the airport and check in. Or try to.
Since we are 1 1/2 hours from the airport and will be turning in the rental car as we arrive, we aren’t excited about the uncertainty. Guess we could rent another car and go back and reopen the Sanibel house for however long it takes to get a flight….
Another United agent has just told us we do have a reservation, and is sending a confirmation email. Fingers crossed.

That kind of uncertainty is nerve wracking. Obviously I hope your confirmed reservation comes through. But, worst case & it doesn't, would it be to your benefit to just decide to stay another week? All of the booking systems must be overloaded, what with cancellations, rebookings, etc., not to mention all the grounded planes. U.S. regulators have since grounded 171 737 MAX 9 planes for safety checks while Alaska and United Airlines (UAL.O), which together have 70% of the 737 MAX 9 fleet, have canceled hundreds of flights this week.source

Mine is a traumita rather than a trauma, especially compared to Kimby's. But it does involve waiting. I've been at home all day waiting for an AmazonMx delivery which will arrive "before 8 pm". It's quarter after six now. I'm in limbo about making supper & the dogs won't get a walk because it's almost dark. It's the consciousness of waiting that makes people crazy.

8:20 p.m.
Just got off the phone with a customer service representative who could not find my account because she couldn't get my effing email right -- partly because she wouldn't let me spell it all the way through without shrieking, "Ay, Dios! Ya lo tengo!" or similar into the phone before I finished spelling. Stupid bimbo. While we were having this non-conversation the delivery page, which I had open, added a note saying, "Too bad, bitch -- you're not getting shit today", or words to that effect. They airily followed that up by informing me that I'll get my stuff between the 12th and the 19th. !!!!!!!!
GAWD, am I pissed off!

My current PPT is that I’m now supposed to have a working knowledge of pharmaceutical products for humans, so I can research various drugs and medications to make sure the ophthalmologist is not going to blind me at my annual check-up, decide if I can safely get an RSV vaccine, and to figure out what would be a comparable replacement for the one daily med I take that is now making me itch like crazy. All because of a stupid little tick that was barely attached. The first two problems have been resolved and, fingers crossed, I think I have found a compounding pharmacy that will make my mammal free meds. I am going to have to fight with the insurance company for reimbursement, but doubt I will have much success based on the word on the street.
On top of all that, I am attempting to clean my washer and dryer because one of my family members used stinky products, also causing me to react.
However, I will take my problems over issues with the airlines any day!

If it makes you feel any better, Bixa, that type of thing occasionally happens with A here in the US, too. So annoying. Well, at least the customer service person at AmazonMx to whom I spoke the other day on a different matter was not only good at her job, but a native speaker of Spanish. Ditto the unprofessional one to whom I spoke this evening. If I try to speak to someone representing Amazon US, I'm likely as not to get someone in a foreign country in a 3rd party call service -- also if I call my bank in the US. Amazon Mx is now claiming they tried to deliver my order today, but address was wrong or incomplete. Grrrrrrr. Why couldn't they use the #$*&^% phone to locate me and why do I routinely get my other orders? Liars. I am going to have to fight with the insurance company for reimbursement Htmb, I honestly don't know how you maneuver all of that! Once you get set up with the compounding pharmacy, can't a doctor just write a prescription for the pharmacy's product in order to streamline collecting from the insurance company? Kimby has not logged on for three hours. I'd like to think it's because her reservation came through & they flew home, but maybe it's because it's after 2 a.m. in Florida.

That’s less helpful than “6-digit code”, K2! Care to elaborate?

A flight booking has a 6 digit reference called a PNR - Passenger Name Reference. It is specific to your booking. It can be numbers, letters or a combination. It's a standard format amongst airlines and is used to immediately see the details of the flight, passengers, route etc etc. It shortcuts a lot of questions when trying to find out if the flight is still going, has been changed, cancelled and so on and has your personal details according to the booking you have made. If you have a PNR it is an airline reference and not a travel agent reference hence you can go straight to the airline website to be sure the agent has got you a ticket and not just fobbing you off or whatever. More or less like that. I'm sure most/nearly everyone on here has seen it and knows it.

Buen viaje, Kimby!!!
I don't use travel agents anymore since they don't seem to have any more magic at their fingertips than the rest of us. When one books oneself, an email is sent with all the details, including the PNR.

Is PNR the same as Confirmation Number?
We had a United confirmation number, and when United rebooked us on Delta, Delta could not look us up by United’s confirmation number. We weren’t able to get a Delta confirmation number, so just had to believe the 2 out of 3 agents who said we did have a reservation. (BTW, the online chat reps for United were the ones who had it wrong.)
And now we’re finally sitting on an Airbus - with free wiFi - enroute between frigid Minneapolis and frigider Missoula.
For the record, we haven’t used a travel agent in decades. But the credit card rewards program that we booked our ticket through counts as a travel agent-booked ticket. Once we let United rebook us, then the rewards program agents lost access to our record.
And of course all this was complicated by the hundreds if not thousands of other travelers similarly impacted by the Boeing Max 9 safety issue. We waited long minutes on hold for each attempt to speak to a real person.
Glad it’s almost over.

Confirmation number, yes. Glad you are on your way. That's always the difficulty when being re-booked on a different airline is the change/access with it happening. K2 would know the answer better than me but - "We had a United confirmation number, and when United rebooked us on Delta, Delta could not look us up by United’s confirmation number. We weren’t able to get a Delta confirmation number...." Just out of curiosity, Delta would have details of your (rebooked) booking from United otherwise they wouldn't have a booking for you at all. I can understand they can't look you up on the United PNR but I would have expected that as Delta do have a booking, they also assigned a PNR to it. K2?
I see on the Delta website you can find and check your booking using either the Confirmation Number, credit card number or ticket number (different to six digits and is 13 digits). I'm a bit paranoid with a rebooking and try and find the info from an agent and then go on the website to check because as you've found in this case they can be wrong.

Buen viaje, Kimby!!! I don't use travel agents anymore since they don't seem to have any more magic at their fingertips than the rest of us. I looked for a travel agent to help me book a rather complicated trip involving some friends and I and I discovered that modern travel agents only remaining function is to push you towards a small selection of all-inclusive prefab travel packages. If you aren't taking a particular cruise or booking a tourist resort or tour package they are paid to promote, they have nothing to offer.

With the current stormy winter weather in the US, I was concerned you’d have issues with your Friday travel, Kimby. Glad all seemed to go according to plan. There had been many predictions of flight delays and cancellations on the news, but it is always difficult to know if they are exaggerating the situation.
