Europe changed to summer time just this last weekend, but for some reason I am waking up even earlier than before when normally I should be waking up later (according to the clock). I don't get it.

The whole world is changing. The seasons here are all wrong and the fruit and veg growers are bewildered Go with the flow. Beware super highway plans and always carry your towel!

I find it amazing how small children can go from laughter to tears (or vice versa) in two seconds flat. It would be even more amazing if this carried over into adulthood and would definitely make the world a completely different place.

You know how when you're waiting to cross the street & there is one car which, if it would just drive at a normal speed, would allow you to cross before the next car came along? Standing on the street corner in that situation, I noticed that the car I needed to have drive on past was going slowly and jerkily. "Probably on his damned phone", I thought crankily, then looked in his window so I could hate him better as he passed.
He wasn't on the phone.
He was flossing.

Here in Missoula, Montana, it's almost impossible to wait for a car to pass so you can cross the street. (Most of) our drivers are so attuned to pedestrians that if you're standing on the curb waiting for your turn to walk, cars often stop and wave you across. However, this can be dangerous on our 4 lane streets as other drivers may not recognize the reason for the stopped car and mow you down in the next lane! I wish they'd just continue about their business and let the pedestrian decide when it's safe to cross.
BTW, bikes on the street get no love from drivers here, who think bikes belong on the sidewalks, mowing down pedestrians!

Our one and only Chinese restaurant is expanding soon - from a mainly Take-Out to a bigger sit down place. I am excited and worried at the same time. The two chefs cannot communicate in English bar a few halting words, their service is shit, BUT the food is wonderful! How will they manage to hang on to pretty agitated customers who will complain when the food arrives but there are no bowls or chopsticks... This scenario has been going on for over a year so now I bring my own crockery but they still don't get it....

Don't know who you could talk to there, but maybe you could convince them to set up a table with stacks of dishes, bowls, spoons, chopsticks, napkins, condiments, etc. It might be considered part of the charm of the place and would reduce stress on both wait staff and customers.

No idea, but, yes you do, the effect that certain behaviors such as that have an affect on me. To the point of climbing the wall , people who make sounds while eating, whether it be smacking, crunching, food exposed outside their mouth, talking with a mouth full of food, (some can be pulled off in a particular manner without being offensive). And, then people who pick at their mouths with a toothpick in the presence of others, and worst of all flossing, this will not stand with me in any way. I do recall a house guest, perhaps an in law who demonstrated this kind of abhorrent behavior with you Bixa sometime back and your posting of it in a houseguest type thread on here. I have many, many, neurosis and this particular one is way up there on the list. The worst is smacking sounds some people make when they are eating. Positively sets me off. There is a term for it ; hyperacusis, which also incorporates many other intolerable sounds (leafblowers anyone?...)

I floss or pick my teeth until my tooth is healed ! That is a nightmare. I have a cavity big as the Parisian catacombs and it fills with everything I eat. 4 more weeks before we take imprints and then waits for a crown to be installed. Gosh ! I have now (some) sympathy for the guys who pick their teeth.

Tod. And so true. It really goes beyond not liking to be told how to do things. Many people seem to think that the status quo is ordained by the universe and simply cannot be changed. Really, haven't you known people who'll complain about an awkward living room, for instance, but when you suggest moving the sofa to a different wall they're deeply shocked: "But the sofa has always been there!"

Well actually the shooting schedule in Paris is something like three weeks, and they will be spending US$25 million here (out of a total budget of around US$150 million), so I guess it sort of is a big thing. One big scene was a car chase under the elevated metro in the 15th arrondissement, but the key scene apparently takes place on the helipad on top of the Ministry of the Economy that straddles the Seine at Bercy. The helipad was actually decommissioned about 10 or 15 years ago, but nobody needs to know that. There was however a controversy because now it is used for beehives, and all of the hives had to be removed because of the movie. You can imagine how the ecologists reacted to this.
Meanwhile, Tom does not sleep in Paris. Every night he flies by helicopter over to London, which apparently has more suitable accommodations.

I sentenced my ficus to death this week for malicious malingering and general flouting of aesthetic rules over the past few years. But while visiting Ikea today, I did not find a suitable replacement, even though I considered several different species of plants. So the ficus has received a reprieve until further notice.

The most insulted and threatened profession in France (in terms of officially filed complaints):
1. Police 2. Drivers 3. Shopkeepers 4. Teachers
78% of teachers know the people who insult/attack them compared to 48% in general.
The vast majority of insulters/attackers are men, but there is a significant percentage of women involved regarding teachers (21%).

Just remind him that you carried and gave birth to his child [after xx hours of labour] and see if that stops the whining! If you had an elective C-section it prolly won't work.
