Soooooooo cool about the Tatton Garden Show, Cheery! Can't wait to hear all about it.
Thanks for the nice thought for the 4th of July, a happy holiday that has been co-opted and ruined by our elected dictator.

Good news my darlings...just back from the hospital. My sister had a scan on Monday and we went to get the results today. We were scared because they brought the appointment forward and she saw the oncology consultant...usually an ominous sign BUT he said that there is no sign of her cancer spreading and the inoperable tumour in her lung is still shrinking! They've moved her check ups from every 3 months to every 4 and she won't need another scan for 8 months. We are ecstatic! So we went to a garden centre and bought plants

That's fantastic news, cheery! They have made so much progress with cancer in recent years, that there is much more reason to hope than in the old days. Our own generation was completely traumatised by all of those years when the outcome was inevitable. We need to put that behind us!

Thank you. Hopefully I'll sleep tonight, it's been a tough few weeks and we've all been very edgy.

Great news I am very happy for you both. As said cancer is no longer a fatality hope is allowed as faith and progress in medicine is growing.

In the bad old days you wouldn't even know you had a cancer until it was too late to do much. Now there are huge education programs on prevention and early detection and treatment. You can take pre-emptive measures and have constant monitoring which, with better drugs and surgery has made for much better outcomes. Keep on getting better and I'm so pleased for all concerned.

On a différent topic I am now assigned to residence. Road will be blocked in a few minutes fir the Tour de France.

Well, at least it will go by fairly quickly. Here in the southwest, people and papers are already full of concern about the blocking of roads, airports and other things when the G7 meets in Biarritz in August. Trump's plane is going to fly in to an airforce base 130 km away, so the highway will be blocked all the way. Of course, his security detail will be greater than anyone else's.
Why can't these people meet with a video conference and stop all this pollution and nonsense?

You have beer, snack, binoculars &/or camera all ready, right?

Well, at least it will go by fairly quickly.
When the Tour goes through an area, the roads are closed for about 4 hours. The police have to make a clean sweep, then the publicity caravan comes through an hour before the riders, then all of the support vehicles bring up the rear, and then the police start opening the barricades.

I see that the riders should be passing in front of the Whatagains at about 16:12.

Quite a difficult thing - can you guess where I am? It may seem simple enough as it could be one of a few places, but there is a special reason this is here......

Yes Bixa. We even have the father in law. He used the cycle. I think he won or nearly won something like liege Bastogne liege. Well he was good and was asked to become professional but turned it down. Hope he will like it. Oh, that will be really nice for him! When the Tour goes through an area, the roads are closed for about 4 hours. More beer! More snacks!

I saw the riders going through that area at about 15:50 so they were ahead of schedule, probably due to the nice weather.

My Google Image skills (learned from Mark) were not up to the task this time for finding the specific place. I even tried the name of the gallery in back but came up with a blank.

I did not need Google. I recognize the figures in the picture. *buffs nails on blouse*

You probably had a slight spelling error as the name is blurred. It's not a gallery but a 'gallega' - it's a butchers shop. Very nice too.

Ooh that brought back memories of Spanish O' level in about 1973...we studied Don Quixote...unfortunately I had just discovered boys so spent more attention on my hair than I did my books...scraped through with the lowest grade pass...and never bothered to pursue the lovely language.
I use Mozilla too Mark...didnt know about that facility. Thank you x

Not related to this topic and feel free to ignore this BUT do you regulate your screen time? I was grumbling to my husband about a chum who is a slave to her phone. We can be mid conversation and she will break off to answer a ping on her smartphone...not even a call waiting or an important message she's waiting for...it can be anything....
Jeff said 'well, you're just as bad, you're on your laptop, kindle or tablet for hours at a time'
I suppose I am some days...I tend to dip in and only stay long enough to read messages, threads on this and one other forum, post myself..but I often get stuck in the scroll loop for long periods, especially on fb. It's fun tho. Must try to limit my online scrolling at least...

I have a smart phone I leave at home and it only makes a noise if I receive a whatsapp from family. I've turned off notifications for everything else. As for screen time, if I am by myself then it is unregulated. I come and go as I please as long as I get done whatever I need to get done away from it. When I am with Mrs M then I cut short anything to spend time with her, unless she needs screen time as well. I have no problems spending eight hours on the computer or none. Either suits me.
With the daughters, they react to every noise their phones make and if we are talking or in the middle of something I always ask, "Is it important?" Invariably they will say it isn't so I don't get to know what their business is. If it makes a noise again I will ask again.... and again.... and again etc They soon get the idea interacting with me is more important than some random instagram thing or whatever.
