Are humans weighed in with the 'animals' though? Are we animals? Are we really here? Am I a figment of your imagination? If so, then I weigh nothing (I wish).

No wonder they keep saying that worms will be our principal source of protein in another 20 years or so. Better get used to it.

There have been 330 million abortions in China in the last 40 years (and probably a lot more than that).

I read that Chinese men who want to marry are having trouble finding brides. Because of the one-child rule, many people were aborting female fetuses in hopes of having a treasured boy-child later.

I believe that is also a problem in India, not because of the one-child rule but because of a preference for boys.

Watching a game show today, I learned that the least common hair colour in France is black -- 2.5%. Everybody got the answer wrong because they said red, which represents 5%.

i would suppose that has to do with people often thinking hair is black, when it is really dark brown? at least here that often happens, people don't distinguish it that well when it is quite dark...

Yes, actually the real colour is dark brown, but the vast majority of hair in France is a genetic mixture between brown and blond called chatain in French. However, it is still a bit strange because that dark brown/black colour is the majority colour in Italy and Spain.

Angela Davis is on televison at the moment and she is saying the 25% of the prison population of the world is in the United States, which is always a disturbing statistic.
She was doing the interview in English, but they made her switch partially to French, since she speaks excellent French and studied at the Sorbonne.

I'd be very surprised about that. How many people are in prison in China and India (bearing in mind the total size of their populations)?

I guess that China (and DPRK?) hides the true number of prisoners, considering even the number of capital punishments carried out isn't a well-established fact.

Probably in a hundred years humankind will look upon our present treatment of all the other animals with disgust, wondering how 20th and 21st century people could be so barbaric.

Kerouac, there is also a very large Maghrebi population in France. Some North Africans (especially Kabyles) are chatain, but most have the very dark brown-black of the Mediterranean basin. Of course there are also Sub-Saharan (Black) Africans and Southeast Asians, and recently a significant Chinese immigration, but probably not enough to affect those statistics. Aren't East Asians and related Indigenous Americans the only peoples with truly black hair?
My hair was that very dark black-brown until it turned grey, but I also had a bit of a reddish tinge in the sun or when tanned in the summer, from the Celtic ancestry on one side of my family. I coloured it that "reddish-black", popular among Parisiennes, until I was sick of it and had to do it too often for my hair and scalp health. So now it is silvery with very dark undertones.

I imagine that the "black hair" percentage of French will slowly rise due to immigration, but then again, since mixed relationships are so common in France, many of the children will not have black hair. What will make the difference is the number of black Africans settling in France. I know that at the refugee/asylum center a block away, about 80% of the people in the queue are sub-Saharan Africans. (And some are blond Russians or other eastern Europeans.)

I downloaded a Paris transportation app about three weeks ago and totally forgot about it. My phone just issued two "dinging" sounds and up popped a notice about a Paris transportation strike planned for tomorrow. True?
