For some reason or other the cemetery reminds me of the cemeteries in the town I grew up in in Germany. I can instantly spot a Catholic one. Thanks for showing us around your barrio, Bix! Really -- I am surprised that they remind you of the ones around your town in Germany. How so? Also, does the cemetery look Catholic because of more statues than in a Protestant one? I hope one day to show you around in real life, HW. Yesterday at 3:00pm, bixaorellana wrote: Thanks so much for your appreciation, you picked out my favorite pics!
I just noticed that these are the ones you posted to the color thread. Nice selection! Thanks again, NYCGirl. If you're a person who likes to play those games of "what's different", one of the pictures is different in the Color thread. Darla says "wrourrgh" [thanks], Mich! She wants me to tell you that today she went to the Abastos Market, which you all have seen before, & got her rabies shot. She was a big girl. Then we walked around a bunch and then had tacos. She says not to tell Jebediah the taco part.

Nycgirl is so right, Darla has a great life! Jebidiah indeed would be jealous about the tacos! I have been walking Jeb quite a bit lately, he is starting to gain some weight now that his fishing time is out of season. Once we get the heavy snow, I will take some photos on our walk and show you all the rural life as we stroll by the Cross Country Ski Club, stop at the mailboxes and share a picture or two of our local pub.
Cheers! Mich

The colors are what I love most about this thread. Everything is so colorful and I think all those murals on the walls have a lot to do with it. It's so much nicer to use murals and paintings on buildings to advertise rather than a hanging sign. It just looks so much more personal. One thing I love about south of the border is the mix of catholicism with indigenous traditions, i.e. the catholic cemetery with the left over goodies from the feast of the dead. You really captured the image I have in my mind of what a typical and traditional Mexican village must look like. Yours even has people in it!

Yes, NYCGirl ~~ a big prize for the little lady! I'll tell Darla what you said about how sweet her life is. She's gotten old enough now to have mastered the sad glances at the gate for the walks she'd like to take continuously and the betrayed face when I leave the yard without her. Oh, Mich -- I know we're all going to hold you to your promise to show the delights of rural Canada. I imagine the community finds ways to stay in touch & keep tabs on each other during the deepest part of winter, correct? Thanks so much FMT. I don't know why painting is so prevalent, but you see it everywhere, even for ephemeral events such as concerts. Frequently entire, block-long walls are used to announce them. I suppose the walls are rented from the owners. As for the mix of beliefs -- a couple of years ago I was at someones home during the days of the dead. A conversation evolved about different beliefs and it turned out that everyone was conscious of church teaching, traditional beliefs, and syncretism, and also that everyone sort of cherry picked for their personal beliefs. I'm glad I could bring some local color & even people to you. Don't know if you ever saw this thread. Maybe the inhabitants of that village have some French ancestry -- they certainly don't hang out on the streets!

Oh yes Bixa, in summer we go visiting friends by boat and in winter many people stop in on their ski-doos. I will do a report, probably after Christmas when it gets really busy at the Pub down the road, sometimes there are about 100 ski-doos parked there at once as people go in for a hot chocolate or some chili to warm themselves up! Looking forward to posting our walk soon! Cheers! Mich
