Oh look ~~ they had to do a study to figure this out. Poverty can lead to anxiety for mothers. A study by Rutgers research has found that poor mothers are likely to develop generalized anxiety disorder brought on by poverty, not due to pre-existing psychiatric disorders. The high levels of stress that arise from raising children in poverty can lead to the condition regardless of any "internal malfunction." Prof. Judith C. Baer says, "The distinction is important because there are different ways to treat the problem. While supportive therapy and parent skills-training are often helpful, sometimes the most appropriate intervention is financial aid and concrete services." [Rutgers University]

The BBC health section is a specialist in that kind of reporting: "Inactivity is bad for you", "moderate exercise is better than extreme sports", "obesity is unhealthy", etc.
Usually followed by readers' comments like "Stating the bleeding obvious again."

well actually, i would think some of these things seem logical to us, and unnecessary to do a study - but just because they have been said before and have been found out before. and i think some people need to hear it repeated and need to see data from studies for it to sink in...

Well, yeah ~~ maybe reading that would make some people more compassionately aware. But still, doing a whole study to say that poverty makes people worry about money & that money alleviates poverty & poverty anxiety seems a bit much.

The outcry about the empty stadiums of the early stages of the London Olympics is sad and predictable. Corporate sponsors get all of those seats to give away, but they interest nobody... except the public.
I really hope that the protestors manager to get the empty seats sold 30 minutes before the events... but the organizers at the moment are just "considering the possibility."
