Are those canna lillies with the dark leaves in pots? They are blooming here already. I hesitate to plant any even though they do well here. I also like colour in gardens, but am trying to limit the colours a bit and cannas tend to be bright orange or red.

Yes they are bjd. Last year I had green leaved Cannas with orange flowers. Wasn’t mad on them. These Cannas haven’t flowered yet.

Splendid Mick, I do love the colours of the dahlias too. I've gone for colour this year as well

Definitely a summer oasis. Can't speak for the bad seasons.

That's great, Mick! You really transformed that space -- lots of work. Did you already have the sago palm, too, or get it for the newly landscaped area?

Thank you. Need to fill in the gaps now. I have added a couple if small items since the picture, a Selenicereus I am told is hardy and Pelargonium transvaalense that stayed outside happily last winter.
I bought the sago palm as a tiny plant from Marks and Spencer years ago.

I thought this combination looked good in the garden on a November day.

Looks good! Are there a lot of things that you need to bring inside during the winter?

Three years ago I planted a euphorbia but it got so huge that I ended up ripping it out this winter. Still find little seedlings that have sprouted in the flowerbed. I still liked them, so bought a small one last year and put it in a pot, but it doesn't seem happy there and it seems to be dying. I guess I give up on them. They have become quite popular as municipal plantings.

Get out a third chair, mick. I'm coming right over to meet Mrs Mick and all the little cactuses. I see you have dozens of the little dears in your well-kept greenhouse.
I always regret not taking time to post whenever you put up a photo of one of these in bloom. So many have fascinating shapes and colors. Some of the ones you've shown recently are little jewels.

What a lovely retreat you have there, Mick! All those large foliage plants really give a lush look, and the pansies and beautifully painted chairs personalize it. Does that purple canna have orange blooms?

Some dainty items drying on the clothesline would have made everything perfect.

Such a lovely space you have created Mick. (I agree with Breeze and would love to put out more chairs and have a cocktail or two. Make mine a Dark and Stormy please).
