Good idea to revive this thread, Ker. Did you know that I spent 4 years in Mons ? (you managed to avoid my street but ok)... I went back some weeks ago with colleagues, it was late and quite empty except for the place ... well, where there used to be a café where... well, it disappeared too. But a lot of new ones were there and we had a beer before I escorted my colleagues to the ... Ibis. You defintely captured the city and I had a lot of fun looking at your pics. They demolished the station, our former Prime minister being the mayor of Mons, money is no issue and it seems the new station will be grandiose. If you go back, there is a nice restaurant in rue de Nimy in front of Rue Antoine Clesse (my former street) called 'mauvais garçon vilaine fille' or something like it. Thanks again !

If you want to see the mayor of Mons, you will find him on my thread about the carnival of Binche.

Wallonia is where it is at in Belgium... The most interesting small cities, historic chateaus and castles are in Wallonia, so as Waterloo. The landscape of Wallonia is breathtaking giant hills and valleys. Since Antwerp museum has been closed for years (fro renovation) all the museums and pints of interest are in Brussels and Wallonia now. If travelers have limited time in Belgium I would advise to skip Antwerp all together and concentrate on Ghent, Brussels etc. If money no object I would advise staying in one of the numerous historic chateaus/castles converted into hotels and spas that are all over Belgium.
