This morning, I got a notification email from Google + that someone I never heard of had commented on a photo by someone I'm "following" on Picasa Web Albums and apparently, I'd commented on the same picture. Or something like that. And, so???
Several acquaintances, friends and relatives have added me to their "Circles", but I haven't added anyone to any of my non existent Circles.
All this seems like unnecessary and superfluous notification. I think that if I want to find out what my friends are doing, I can email them, read their bogs, or view their photo albums, when I want to.
I just don't get Google +.
And please, don't try to tell me about FaceBook. Thanks.

I have learned pretty well to unclick just about all of the conveniently pre-clicked boxes on a lot of these sites.

DonC, I think that might have something to do with Google's new "privacy policy" or, as it should be called "you ain't go no privacy no more policy". Also, you may have signed up for Google + at some point, which you'll need to disable to get out of the Circles & notifications.
I admit I never read the new policy despite being advised of it continuously every time I visited anything having to do with google.
On Feb 29, the day before google's new policy was to go into effect, I read something online about disconnecting google's ability to track your "web history", which I immediately did.
For now, you can try this: Log on to Google & go to Account Settings Once there, review Multiple Sign-ins (I revoked all permissions) Don't have any Connected Accounts Under Services, click Go to Web History Once there, tell it to stop collecting Web History (it will be "Paused") & also Remove All Web History.

My Google Web History has nothing in it for some time. I set it to zero some time ago.
In regard to Google + profile, I'm given the option of deleting Google + content or my entire Google Profile. I think the second option is too drastic. I suspect that my blogs depend on that profile. But I'm considering taking the first option. Fortunately, there's a link to "Learn More". I have to go read it now.

I have closed my Google + account, while keeping my old account. (They said...)

Another little wrinkle in Google's new no-privacy-for-you-me-hearties policy: Last night I got an email in my Gmail inbox from my sister who lives in McAllen, Texas. This morning I had an ad running across the top of the Gmail inbox advertising real estate in McAllen, Texas. At the end of the ad line were the words "why this ad?". Clicking on that rendered: This ad is based on emails from your Inbox. Visit Google's Ad Preferences Manager to learn more, block specific advertisers, or opt out of personalized ads.The words "Ad Preferences Manager" in the above were linked text. Clicking on it took me to a blank page. The email followed by an ad for real estate in the same area does feel like an invasion of privacy. But what to make of the current ad: Industry Air Knife - AtlanticBlowers.com - Offering Industry's Most Advanced Range of Air Knives. Order Today!or this one I got by refreshing the page: Ethernet Outdoors - www.GarrettCom.com/ - Magnum Hardened Ethernet Products Security & Surveillance NetworkingShouldn't they at least be offering me things I'd recognize?
