These were taken by my friends on their phones and lifted directly from their Facebook walls. Catching a nap... This one's not embarrassed to sport a hands-free umbrella. Her sticker claims she "is not in the mood to be stared at," but her look says otherwise. And this has to be the most hilarious commuter photo I've seen. I'm still shy about taking snapshots of strangers, but my friends have inspired me. From now on, I'm going to try to at least have my iphone at the ready.

This is so cool NYCgirl! Similar to some of what we have in the Local Color thread but more specific to locale and needless to say,one close to my heart. I have a couple I may lift and put in here as well.
The last shot of the young woman with the cutting board on her lap is outrageous!! "Only in NY "!!! ;D

By all means, add any NY photos you like.
The cutting board girl is priceless. Why is she cutting onions, of all things? The look on the guy next to her is great, too. It takes a lot to make a New Yorker look aghast at you!

Yes,the look on the faces of others is often the most intriguing part of these types of pics. Here's one I took in May of 2010 in Times Square. This woman was a real presence,I saw her everyday over a period of days I was staying in that neighborhood. Her name was Rita, and her dog,Buck.

The cutting-board woman is wonderful. Only in a big city.
Is Times Square pedestrianized now?

I've just gotta show that photo to my Rastafarian gardener, of the Rastafarian man catching a doze! My garden man had to cut his hair a year ago because his sister died, so is sporting a much shorter look ;D
As for the girl getting her vegetables prepped as she goes home........ does she know that public places are crawling with germs - I hope she washed/cleaned her hands! The guy next to her seems to be thinking..."Do ya have to chop those stinky onions in here!"

The cutting-board woman is wonderful. Only in a big city. Is Times Square pedestrianized now? There is a whole block that is pedestrian and also has benches, tables and chairs. I'm not positive of what exact block it is but right in the heart of the square. It's quite nice. That whole area is so spiffed up from what it used to be. Rather yuppified IMHO,Starbucks and the like abound. The grit is long gone. When I was there on that particular visit, there had just been a "terrororist" bomb scare,a rather big one, enough to merit a visit from President Obama to thank the NYFD et al. There was still a huge presence of bomb sniffing dogs and firemen police about but it didn't seem to stop business as usual from going on.

Oh yeah, I remember that. It actually was a credible threat. Glad nothing happened.
I like your picture of Rita and her cute dog.
Did anyone notice that the woman (?) in the third photo has long, curved talons? It took me awhile to notice that, as well as the ironic sticker on her cart. My friend who took this photo is a dog walker, so she catches gems like this all the time.

I only just now after your mentioning see the talons on pic #2!! JEEZ. The dog walkers of NYC merit acknowledging too NYCgirl!! They are some of the most quirky people in NYC!!! I get such a kick out of watching them maneuver up to 10 dogs of every conceivable breed etc. It's a trip to watch them!! I have taken some pics of a couple of them over time as they always catch my eye. Oh,he must have some stories to tell!! It's one of those jobs I fancy myself doing for a couple of days, just to have the experience of doing it.

The body language of both guys in photo 3 speaks volumes. The nails - wow Rita and her dog make a wonderful, colourful picture I spotted this guy in Central park on a Sunday am where the skaters gather. There were others even more quirky but the quality of my photos is rubbish.

Funny pic, Lugg! I once saw a guy dressed up as Batman in Times Square, but seeing that in Central Park is much weirder. Yes, it is funny seeing a huge menagerie of dogs parading down the streets. My friend definitely meets a lot of quirky characters, both human and canine. On gorgeous days when I'm cooped up inside, I do envy people who work in the great outdoors. However, we usually have miserable weather here at least four months out of the year, so I'm sure I'd quickly grow to hate it.

Here are a couple of photos I took in Williamsburg in Brooklyn. These guys aren't afraid of color. And here's one my husband took in Soho. Can you spot what is unique about this skirt?

While I was frying some bacon this evening, I glanced out the window and saw the most incredible man waiting at the bus stop downstairs on the other side of the street. He was wearing striped trousers, a striped shirt and a striped jacket as well as a funny hat. Naturally, nothing matched anything else. I instantly thought "this man needs to be sent to NYC immediately!" and ran to get my camera. 15 seconds later I returned, but the bus had arrived and was totally blocking the view. So, no stripey man to send to New York.

Maybe that's his intended destination and he dressed for the occasion and on his way?

Ahhh, shoot! Well, you tried. My problem is I often see a person who would make a great subject, but I hesitate and miss the opportunity.
