Today I went to the small Museum of Manuscripts and Letters which is currently displaying the original manuscript of On the Road. Of course, I also looked at hundreds of other manuscripts and letters by everyone you can imagine and the main thing that came to mind was what a difficult job it used to be to be a typesetter. So much of it is chicken scratch, or else it is written so small, from times when ink and paper were very expensive.

As dictated by the Holy Spirit and so needed no editing.

An edition was published several years ago and I bought it, not having read On The Road for probably 30 years at least.
I haven't been able to read it. No indentation, no paragraphing and no chapters. Dear God, what a mess! I can manage a page or so but I really find it very difficult to read.
