I made a grilled ham and cheese sandwich and am already regretting the crumbs on the bottom of the oven, but I don't yet have the impetus to clean them out.

I'm having some of a turkey + tourtière, and a cabbage and carrot salad. The flat cabbage I have is very tender and mild.
The plus in the tourtière includes some chard, mushrooms, sliced green olives (they came sliced, in a tin - I buy those on sale for baking) red onion, garlic, herbs and other things I forget.
I do have soup cubes, but have been trying to always have some homemade stock from bones, as I was really ill earlier this autumn and couldn't stomach anything but broth. I have a small, venerable crockpot and use it for practically nothing else -
Silly me - this is supper. I did have soup for lunch.

Kerouac - learn quickly not to use your oven unless it has an oven liner of that heavy foil. It is a real bind to clean an oven when stuff gets baked on hard, even with these miracle oven cleaners.

Don! I don't know what you were served in English, but it looks a bit like a creature from the swamp. I hope it was tasty even though strange looking.

Tod2, it's just meat from a beef animal. I loved it, but the spices and grease did not agree with me.

I did not enjoy my Xmas lunch very much. I loved the huge prawns in the prawn cocktail I served as a starter but was very disappointed in the Turducken (pre-Cooked) and the gammon I prepared myself. The blue cheese salad and garlic bread were OK but I think previous years of grilled crayfish with Spanish rice were the best. Today we had a store-bought chicken pie with home prepared vegetables which included stuffed baked potatoes. Much better than yesterday.

I have been having blended vegetable soup for lunch and also for breakfast lately. It was the weather which inspired me for this. However, I noticed that I much preferred the version containing leeks to the alternate version made with courgettes and cabbage the next day. I have always loved leeks.

I was going to have a bread roll with a Vienna sausage - but the monkeys tortured us for 2 hours climbing all over the garden walls and peering in at the windows. Just when we thought they had gone and opened the windows, the little scamps came into the house and grabbed the bread rolls and a loaf of bread. So, I microwaved two stuffed potatoes left over from last night.

, Tod! Today for lunch I had a fresh-out-of-the-oven ciabatta. I cut it in half and had one half with ricotta cheese, sliced home-grown tomato and fennel leaves, all drizzled with olive oil plus salt & pepper. The other half was the same, except without the ricotta.

Pork rib and vegetable soup. I was really ready for a non-Mexican style soup good for a winter day and I made a nice one. Okay, once it was in the bowl, I did squeeze in some lime & add a little green chile/coriander salsa. 🌶️ 😁

I made a soup with leeks, parsnips and carrots. I must say that it was mostly to give parsnips a second chance, but they will not be part of my future soups.

just had part of the leftover pasta with salmon in cream sauce from yesterday's dinner. still enough left over for another meal - though i wouldn't mind eating it now, but as i happen to know just how many calories it has, i suppose i have to content myself with the amount i have just eaten. why is the tastiest food so often unhealthy?

Yesterday, Wednesday We were lured by raving Google reviews to Nanixhe, a small antojería, As soon as I saw the rickety chairs and the scanty menu, I knew coming there was a mistake. However, Doña Cuevas ignored the warning signs and forged ahead. I stood pat, ordering only a nosh of bolitas de queso. Those were six small fried cheese balls on the plate with pasty cheese flavored interiors.
My wife's "Sopa Azteca-Teca" was thin and watery. It was accompanied by tired garnishes, including bits of unpeeled shrimp. They were too much of a bother to deal with.
The "natural" pulque I asked for was full of chopped pineapple. It was not a pleasing combination.
My wife had ordered garnachas de res, but they never came. We took that as a cue to get the heck out of there and asked for the check. We then got a taxi that took us to El Colibri. If ever there was a well-managed restaurant, it's El Colibri, Oaxaca.
There we satisfied our cravings for real food, served professionally, in a semi-formal dining room. We both had cheeseburgers and fries, and a generous side of fresh salad. There were delightful extras included in our meal, such as a basket of delicious breads, flavored butters and a tangy salsa.

Sorry about your disaster lunch Don but we must have been in a twinned dining room! My friend and I have lunch together about once every 6 weeks. The last encounter was a dreadful disappointment although I have been there dozens of times and the food was very good. I guess good chefs come and go with the seasons.... Well! Yesterday I said meet me at Jaxx, the food is always good. Ha Ha! What a let down not only for the food but the restaurant had all its doors and windows open as wide as possible to let in the 35C air. I looked at the owner crouched over a table and remarked about the air conditioning. I got a very feeble excuse and proceeded to find the coolest table I could. We ordered the Hake Strips, which are served with fries and a salad - the fish seemed to have been pre-cooked and re-heated. The salt cellar on the table had less than a teaspoon of salt in it. We asked for the fan of the unit to be put on and after a scramble around the waiter announced they could not find the remote. Sign is there....going going Gone!
