Things have already started getting nasty on the campaign trail, but every now and then it's time for a laugh.

It's on the news in France tonight -- Switzerland did not appreciate that video one bit!

Probably for reasons different from mine.

Speaking of funny (although perhaps less funny to anyone living in Florida), I see that there is already speculation that Hurricane Isaac could cancel or postpone the Republican convention in Tampa.

Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.

Were they planning to hold their convention in a trailer park?

I'm sure the convention center is solid, but if the airport is closed and the power is out, it makes it difficult to get to all of those stripper clubs that Tampa is famous for.

I meant to post this here rather under "hurticanes:"
Tampa streets are very prone to flooding in heavy rain. There's also the potential for loss of electric power, closed gas stations, limited water, etc.
While it is certainly a possibility that Isaac will head towards the Tampa area, it is really too early to tell. Weather forecasters like to latch onto an idea and blow it out of proportion, particularly when it comes to forecasting the path of major storms.

Although I would never really want such a thing to happen to another living soul, I get a weird thrill imagining the Republican convention turning into the Superdome situation during Katrina, especially the mental image of face-lifted hags with freeze-dried purple hair having to shit into a bucket.

For several different reasons, I seriously doubt if Tampa were to be hit with a disaster similar to that of New Orleans members of the Republican party would be left to suffer a fate on a par with those at the Superdome.

Yeah, I guess there is a very important factor that would be taken into consideration, unlike during Katrina.

Funny, or not. My husband finds this very amusing, but I a lot less so. As the saying goes, you can't out-crazy Texas.
I am amused only by the moderator nodding his strikingly coiffed head and saying, "Uh huh! Right. Mmm. Yup."

While I'm at it, this interview made a bit of a stir last week. The interviewer Charles Jaco is on old family friend. I don't find US Representative Todd Akin (R MO)'s biology ignorance as amusing as his flag-wrapped smoke-blowing just before.

Of course, Kimby. That's the whole point, though many people will never get it.
Speaking of Florida, how is Sanibel faring? Are you there now?

Not in the "funny" category, but I watched Michelle Obama's speech last night. I hadn't planned to, but saw she was just beginning her speech as I went to turn off the TV which had been on mute. I though her speech was well-crafted and beautifully presented. I also think she is a wonderful assett for the president. CNN copy of Michelle Obama's convention speech.

Our TV news just showed a little of Michelle Obama's speech. She is a great asset to the President and also looked a million dollars.
