I totally agree with htmb !!!! But then... I like getting your views and insights here otherwise the interesting places you show us would/could/might be overrun by tourists in the near future, bestselling book and all you know?!?! Isn't it enough I am taking extensive notes? ha ha ha

All of these buildings are so interesting. I keep looking at the first picture, trying to figure it out. The left section must be a separate property from the right part -- ? Do you know if the building in the 2nd picture is new construction or simply a new facade? Number three is the classic flatiron shape. It needs to be added to the Wikipedia list. Wonder what happened to the missing piece in number four, if it was ever even there. Number five is similar to number one, with two different properties occupying what could/should have been a single building site. Number six -- rounded! Rounded is nice, as is its roof garden. Fun thread ~~ thanks.

I keep finding more and more, always somewhat mysterious. In fact, I have been seeing so many that I don't even automatically photograph them anymore.
The jagged "teeth" in #4 are quite common in Paris. They seem to have done that when they assumed that a similar building would be built next door, and clearly it didn't always happen.

when there are windows on both sides, the apartments must get a lot of light. and if there is a balcony, it must be great for growing things, getting light from three sides...

It seemed appropriate to add the shortest street in Paris to this thread. The entire length of it is just that flight of steps.

Thanks for another thin slice of Paris Kerouac. In the thin building on the corner at 14 rue de Pontoise is INAGIKU. This Japanese restaurant specialises in Teppan-Yaki . Although expensive in our language it is a treat I would have when in Paris as I love teppan-yaki....and most Japanese food. Of course it goes without saying - if you know a cheaper place...Let's have it!

The car is about as wide as the building!

That is typical of our crazy "planning" authorities
"You may build what you like on that site, BUT, the original facade must be preserved"

Kerouac, where is that last building located? I'd like to go take a look.

We call those facadectomies around here. A lot of those in Seattle and Vancouver.

That is somewhere in the 18th arrondissement, around rue Damrémont or rue Montcalm. I'll try and take a look at the photos I took before and after than one to see if I can pinpoint the location.

Thanks! I think I found it on rue Montcalm, but it's hard to pinpoint the address in Google on my tablet.

If you turn to face the building on Street View, it is 25 rue Montcalm.

Thanks! That's where I was looking! There are a lot of narrow buildings up that way, it appears.

I used to insure a house in Chelsea worth well over £1,000,000 on the Estate market which was less than 3 metres wide.

I don't have my own photo handy...but the building on Rue Monge in front of the Arènes de Lutèce narrows almost to a point. See Google links: View 1View 2ssander
