This thread was created by casimiraThere are so many songs that have been memorably covered by musicicians, songwriters in their own right. Regardless, many have been posted in threads in here, but, some, are so deserving of their own merit. Let us post ours here. This, I'll start with. In the back of my addled brain, knew was an Irving Berlin composition, but, know it best in this rendition... Enjoy, and, please post your own.

I really like "Mad World" by Tears for Fears, but the cover by Gary Jules that was used in Donnie Darko totally blows that one away.

Al Green! *genuflects*-
I was unaware of that cover. My two absolute favorite songs that Al Green covers are Pretty Woman and For the Good Times.
I'd forgotten about this thread, but coincidentally night before last I came across this cover:

I know that no one on the face of the earth does a better cover of this than Joe Cocker, but, this is a decent attempt and deserves a good listen.

I guess this constitutes a cover. Anyway, it's cute as all get-out.

Clever advertising. So now, I'm wondering if this means Google has purchased the rights to "Word Lens."

What is Word Lens ~ is it the i-version of a translator app?

I'm pretty sure it's cross platform. I had written about it somewhere on anyport in spring of 2014. I have it on my phone; I think the app was free. I use it every once in awhile when I'm in a hurry or am feeling too lazy to look up something like information on a sign. (Internet connection is needed).

Yeah, when I first heard of it I thought it was a great idea. But really, it's more something for a phone, which would be able to get a signal when one was out of internet range.

Well......first you'd need to actually have a cell phone.

You both deserve nightmares for your discussion, so here is a very memorable cover by Mireille Mathieu.

!!! ~ just before coming on to anyport & seeing your post above, Casimira, I was listening to a cover of a Bob Dylan song. And you know what the first four words to it are ~

I like this version of the Neil Young song because Mathieu Saikaly removed all of the bitterness from it.

Oh!! I enjoyed them both. The Noela (of whom I am not familiar with but love, love her soft voice) cover so melancholic. The bluegrass "Rocket Man" (likely one of my favorite Elton John songs) so upbeat and energizing. An unlikely surprise and interpretation. What I love about many covers. Thanks for these Bixa. On a similar note (pun intended ), I heard on the radio this morning this years inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. One of them is Nina Simone, long, long ,long overdue (WTF is wrong with these people?). Anyway, speaking of interpretations I post this (I know it was posted by Lagatta following Leonard Cohen's passing but, it deserves another listening).
