Oh sorry, they did send me an e-mail. It's because I'm under-age. Please tell WE's other regulars that I should hopefully be back in 3 months. Thanks- I'll be hanging out here though.

I was so shaken with discovering I'm banned from TT that I didn't notice your post, Deyana. Thanks! Yes, I'm only 15. Cheers- I will stick on TT but will not post.

really sorry to hear that, ansh - believe me, I don't enjoy swallowing my words, but am fully amazed they took it this far. I'll be really watching the board closely...
would you mind a new handle very much?

Hi Nautiker. About the new handle, I'm sure they'll discover as they can get to know IP and then perhaps I won't be allowed even later. If I try anonymously, it'll be no fun as they won't know it's me... Uh, would you mind posting it on this thread about my disappearance: www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=2281366&start=180I would appreciate if you can, thanks!

hi ansh, I already did while you typed, however my reply is still awaiting 'approval' - they're not doing themselves a favour with this feature...

Thanks!
I would love to ask them:
this is a TRAVEL forum. Can <16 not travel? Maybe bar my access to YC (if it comes back) but this is ridiculous.

I don't think it'll post- at least 3 of my messages got denied today with no notification.
Thanks anyways. Will keep a close watch even in the next 3 months.

Wow, I didn't think they would go so far! My condolences, ansh, even though I'm thrilled that you are among us here.

Thanks Kerouac. I asked them if I can post ONE goodbye message- can't as the post doesn't pass "approval" (from a new handle).

Maybe they are just protecting you from all of the paedophiles. I'll see if I can post something about you. Perhaps if several different people try, they will finally give in.

I'd laugh in any other situation... But seriously, I may ave understood their decision had YC etc still existed. Their new Community guidelines say: We remind you that Thorn Tree is designed, suitable and intended for people who are over 16, and should not be used by anyone under this age. Read more: www.lonelyplanet.com/community-guidelines#ixzz2HDHb8gcQUNQUOTE Assuming LP is about travel only (which it is mostly), this doesn't make sense. Corporate lawyers? Thanks Kerouac. I'd deeply appreciate any post, hope something goes through. Cheers

AWS-Time = beer o'clock for the mods?
I've read somewhere that commonly on the web paedophiles try to disguise themselves with an underage 'profile' - maybe that's why you got banned?

Dunno, I'd have thought I have been too long on the forum for that suspicion to be harboured?
Seemed to me from posting today on TT that mods don't check posts if edited. The original post is checked but if you edit it, it won't be checked again.

Well anyway, I think the TOS here say "age 13 and above." Yes -- just checked.

I'm sure anshjain is not in the slightest interested in being "groomed" by some dirty old man. Or dirty old lady, for that matter.
I was glad to see this thread, as I had logged on to TT for some info about Amsterdam - well, that is basically Cecilia...
Of course I feel more at home here, but there are some destinations for which TT does have useful info. As for the Canada branch, it is dominated by some loudmouth who hates French and Native people, so I avoid it unless someone has a very specific Montreal question.

swallow my words again, the subsequent decoy message just went through, so they're positively censoring the content - good grief! had hoped to 'edit' the 2nd message - alas the edit button has gone. you can neither reply to the new sticky nor start a new topic on the 'community' branch as well. I'm not enjoying this. has WE really had such a reputation or what are they trying to proove?

OMG. TT is really turning into a totalitarian regime! From a, say, monarchy with a bit more freedom of expression.

I really can't fathom TT, which started as a backpacker site, banning teenagers.
Old farts.

It would appear from the 4 pages this thread has garnered that many anyporters became forumites at least in part because of TT. That said, I haven't paid much attention to this thread because I lost interest in TT sometime back. Obviously I would never say it's not a great resource for travel information, as we've all benefited from it, or helped others in that way at times. The stipulated reasons are a joke, that's for sure. Members with a long memory will probably agree that the content there was far more contentious in days gone by.
For example, the World of Sport (WoS) branch was allowed to run on for years after deteriorating into a foul-mouthed feud between a handful of so-called British Premiership Football 'fans' who abused anyone who dared post anything of a reasonable or objective nature on any sport, let alone soccer...
As far as I can see, the Western and Eastern European branches are effectively 'policed' by the hardcore of regulars like myself and others who 'report' abusive or commercial posts on our own initiative. Otherwise these malign contributions are frequently left on the board ad infinitum...
Like Kerouac alluded to above, TT is years beyond it's hey-day but it would be sad and unjust to see the old place allowed to wither and die because the BBC couldn't be bothered to moderate it, in the first place.
Will be interesting to see how this plays out but the leadership at the Corporation is so dysfunctional now that it wouldn't surprise me what happens, up to and including closure... And doesn't that just say it all! Yeah, once bbc came in, tt lost its spark & the bbc never bothered making it any sleeker & easier to use, not to mention creating any form of respectable moderation. Guys, they terminated my account. Now I'm really pissed. I would love to ask them: this is a TRAVEL forum. Can <16 not travel? Maybe bar my access to YC (if it comes back) but this is ridiculous. Maybe because some of my posts on Languedoc contained correct and helpful information? These three posts point up how poorly bbc regards the forum they've acquired, that they'd arbitrarily delete solid travel information that individuals took time and care to impart. Has the TT closure increased activity here? For me, APIAS and TT provide very different, both enjoyable experiences, but APIAS is much more intimate and personal. A real PLUS attraction here is the ability to embed images and videos. For me, it's a great place to post what would have been blog topics but without the overhead of blog frills. Frankly, as this is the occasion of anyport's 4th birthday, I'd like to see it become less intimate in the sense of having many, many more participating members. Also, there is no reason why the Port can't be just as effective, if not more so, than any other travel information sharing forum. We ain't just about pretty pictures! Yes, the easily accessible and interactive photo reports distinguish us, but more travel questions and answers would be welcome within each & every of those reports. The photo reports are a permanent source of beauty, entertainment, and information. Expanded use of them for pertinent Qs & As could only enhance them. We truly have a wonderful bunch of members & it's deeply flattering to see the real cream from tt coming here to post. More! More of same!

My message did not get through either; it started out innocently enough on the snow thread -- "blizzard in Bangalore." Hehe...thanks for trying though. Bjd, that thread doesn't contain anything about my abrupt departure. Yet, at least. Wow, it looks like ansh got his account back from what I just saw over at LP. Is the Thorn Tree bending to pressure already? Sorry, where do you see that?

no kerouac, ansh had been posting on the 'snow'-thread already, too. seems he was chucked out only afterwards.
ansh, had you gotten in contact with the mods about your age on your own accord?
bixaorellana, if your kind words include me, I'm feeling very flattered. hopefully indeed there'll be more traffic, as I'm myself am awful OP...
and TT diabled PMs, too, so currently no chance contacting anyone at all...

Thanks all. Indeed, I could post normally on the 6th till afternoon. After TT came back, I couldn't login. Found the e-mail then from LP Staff. No Nautiker, I didn't talk to them about the age thing first, they knew that already and banned my account.
