Oh, Mich! Stunning photo. Hopefully it won't be long before all that ice is melted.

this was when I was in my bedroom packing for my holiday and I was dumping things on the bed to see what to pack, plus ironing board to give them the once over before they went into the case which then DISAPPEARED.

Looks like a nice view out that window Spindrift, is that room on the top floor of your home?
Casimira the view off your deck is beautiful! I can imagine some lovely evenings spent out there.
Yes Kerouac, we do fish quite a lot. We will probably do more from the boat this summer, although I enjoy wading into the lake in the evening and casting.
Thank you bjd and htmb!

Another beautiful view from you, Mich. Considering how much I hate cold, I do think frozen water is beautiful. Does your lake change color all day long when it's frozen?
Nice window view, Spindrift. Is that an evergreen outside your window? I love your curtains!
Very pretty view, Casimira, but not as lovely nor as ample looking as it is in real life!

Mich - when I see that long uphill row of steps I can only think no-one in the family needs to go to the gym!! What a divine deck! I would not mind taking down the wine and snacks but there better not be any left to haul back up! Casimira - What a lovely lush view from your deck

Bixa, I am not sure I understand your question so this is my answer as I interpreted it.
"Does your lake change colors all day when it is frozen?"
When you look out at the ice each day it has patches that are the lightest shades of grey. I think because of the currents running underneath makes some areas thicker than others.
When covered in snow, it is as white as you an imagine. Beautiful.
When the ice melts it goes from the light grey's, to grey, to dark grey to finally black.
When the sun is shining on the ice in the final stages of melt, it looks like black diamonds that break into smaller and smaller pieces until they finally all disappear. You can hear it as well.
When the ice has cracked apart and the wind blows, the pieces crash into each other and you hear a sound like when you pour soda onto ice in a glass, a bubbly effervescence. It is a wonderful sound.
Thanks Tod, we have developed many ways to make things easier over the years when dealing with living on a hillside. One of the best decisions was we built a little alcove on that deck to keep a small bar fridge that is always stocked with an assortment of beverages. There is underground wires all the way down to the deck for lighting so we thought why not add the fridge.
The only thing we can not solve, determining that exact moment when you should make the dash to the house to use the toilet. Everyone is sympathetic when they come to visit and are always thinking to bring something up when they make a trip so by the end of a day or evening it never seems to be an issue.

Mich, your frozen lake is different from what I experienced, but I love your poetic reply. It sounds so beatiful, especially with the sound effects you describe. I lived on a small river (it was named Little River) in the NE corner of N.Carolina. The river slowly froze all one night, leaving it not smooth, but bumpy and undulating. As the light changed every day, the river would gleam orange, green, purple, or blue, often in various combinations of the colors. No deck here, so I took some pics from my patio of the shared garden that belongs to some of the other neighbors ~

Interesting to see the tall citrus tree. At least the fruit can be picked from the second story.

Thank you Bixa... The river being shallower than a lake, maybe that would cause the undulations in the ice? All of those colors would be wonderful to see, I have never experienced anything like that.
The view off your patio is fantastic! I was waiting to see what the courtyard looked like and what a perfect thread to show us! Is there more than one citrus tree in the compound? Having neighbors who seems to share your love of plants and gardens must be a pleasure. I also love the spiral staircase!
