Does this mean that we are going to have to hold hands and pray before we post?

There is very little information about the buyer online, but he is described as a bourbon-drinking, good ol' boy who is a farmer at heart.
The stereotype of that would be someone who seriously believes in personal freedom. Even though he made his fortune with tobacco, he doesn't smoke. And he's not a hunter, but he does fish. One of his hobbies is breeding endangered species--not for hunting, but for conservation. He hopes to be able to reintroduce them back into native habitat. He sometimes wears a kilt, because it's comfortable and "At one point Mr. Kelley sported a long red beard, earning him the nickname 'ZZ Top'."

Then I suppose that he does not wear underwear under the kilt.

Maybe it's a pity the Wheelers didn't come in and buy the business back for a fraction of what they received for it? Can't help wondering if they were tempted...

I wonder if it means anything for TT users?

If anything, American management would make it even stricter, I think.

At least I hope they'll be competent enough to be answerable to the users...

I think Mr. Kelly - if the deal will be realized - buy LP for the only reason to make money. The TT forum under this circumstances, or if members/users worldwide are happy or not, would be his last problem.

True but that might impact guidebook sales. As it is, they're low- their new style of books didn't seem to help...

Of course but nobody knows if he has other and different ideas in his head. I doublt about that it is just a hobby for him making an investment of millions to help. BBC is not the Red Cross and the members in the TT bring him no one Cent.

I just saw that on TT. I guess keeping TT will only happen if the new owner thinks it adds some value to LP. If not, he'll certainly stop funding.

You know, it hadn't really occurred to me that people on this board may not know that I met two of the mods last year, separately, when they were in the US-- Zabba, and Katija.
Both struck me as being very dedicated to TT and passionate about its unique community. Zabba, in particular was not originally as familiar with TT, as he came to TT from outside of LP. But he told me he had come to see what a special place it was.
(No,they did not gossip about other users or give me any real names. Both were professional in that respect. No, I do not have a bunch of personal email messages saying "hey, nutrax, here's the real scoop.")
I can't imagine either of them happily plotting to dismantle the board.

I too don't think the mods are the problem at TT. Their job is to enforce whatever rules are decided from the owners. I am sure that the forum was more freewheeling until it was sold to BBC, but even then, there were certain rules to be respected.
Today in the IHT there was an article about the selling of LP to this "reclusive American millionaire" -- apparently he has other travel interests and is interested in his buys' online presence, so maybe TT will carry on.
Whether there will be other moderation decisions that discourage current posters is another matter.

I also doubt it's the mods: after all, they are directed their work from the higher brass...and if the real decision-makers don't come on TT (which of course they won't- just a hypothesis) all the thousands of posts of complaints on the Community FAQs have fallen on deaf ears.
