We have that in Paris, too, but I don't know when.

I think most people put a bath towel on the seat.

I have another question for you London experts: I see where the Borough Market is open for lunch from 10 - 3, Mon - Wed. Since I would only be able to visit on one of those days, I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile.

I have not been on those days but I can say that there is a lot to within the vicinity of the market - ie the Millennium bridge, the Tate, the Globe, Southwark Cathedral, HMS Belfast - all walkable from the market area

I agree with Lugg on walking down to Southwalk Cathedral way. There is a nice, but modern pub overlooking the Thames near the corner of Clink street and Cathedral street. ( Right next to the old replica ship - not sure which one, sorry!) Also in the vacinity is The Mudlark pub but only has 'people watching' and no view of the river.
My guide book on London suggests The Anchor pub - says it has fine views! It's in Bank end a continuation of Clink stree by the looks.

Thank you for that information, Lugg and Tod. I hope to explore around in that area for sure. I'm getting very excited; just another couple of days now and I will be off. I appreciate all the great tips and advice posted on this thread and plan to put it to some good use!

I debated where to post this report, but figured this was as good a place as any. For those of you who have followed my posts, you will remember that I hate to fly, particularly on small regional airplanes, due to two horrendous experiences. So, I've began facing my flight with a bit of trepidation yesterday when I woke up with the beginning of a cold. Not a great way to start a trip to London, but what to do?
So, last night I got a good nights sleep, waking at the late (for me) hour of 7:30 AM only to find out my 6:00 PM flight to Atlanta had been postponed to 7:30 due to a storm. There would be no way I'd make my 9:30 PM flight to Hearhrow. With the hope that I might be able to get on an earlier flight out of Gainesville, I started finishing my household chores while trying to get a Delta agent on the phone Within two and a half hours I was ale to change my reservation to an earlier flight, rearrange my airport transportation, and pay my bills - a three hour job I did in 20 minutes. I just hope I signed my checks!
I got to the airport, and found that even this new flight was delayed. However, I not only made it to Atlanta with 7 hours to spare before my flight to London, but a friend whose flight had also been rescheduled got me into the Delta Skylounge at no cost to me.
So, things are looking up. I think that after sitting around the Atlanta airport all afternoon I will be ready to get on my flight and sleep until we land in London. Fingers crossed. ;D God only knows what I forgot to pack. So far, the only things I can think of are earrings. Looks like I will purchasing a pair on my trip.

I should add that Delta's plan was to fly me to Atlanta, have me miss my London flight, and put me on the earliest flight out tomorrow. I'm just grateful I made it to Atlanta, even if I do need to sit here a half a day.

Sorry to hear you have all this hassle starting out, let us hope things run smoother from now on. PS. I am sure there will be a shop somewhere in London which sells super de luxe earrings

Seven hours at Hartsfield... I have done that many times, usually by watching flights leave without me as I tried to fly standby to Tampa...

What I'd really like to do is go to sleep, but I need to wait until after take-off.

Waiting for the plane to Paris, I was often afraid that I was going to fall asleep and miss the plane, since I usually had to wait until 5 minutes before they closed the door to get my boarding pass. Then again, one's adrenalin tends to keep one going in such cases.

:)Wishing you a sleep filled flight! How nice to meet up with someone who got you into the Sky Lounge, especially since you had to wait all of those hours, but at least you made your flight!
Cheers htmb!
