In general, I have very nice skin, almost no wrinkles (well into 50s) and never had severe acne as a teen. Nor do I now, but it is a puzzle how to deal with the odd spot I get these days, as obviously I don't want to dry out my skin with anything to astringent. Evidently people "of a certain age" do get spots, pimples, blackheads... Hormonal changes, as in adolescence, but the other way round...
Any advice about this definitely not life-threatening minor problem?

I find it very unsettling how the human body goes through crazy hormonal changes as teenagers, only to experience even more bizarre changes as older adults. It's the pits!

Actually pressing spots can complicate the problem.

Benzoil peroxide gel or Salicylic acid gel, right on the spot, after washing but before moisturizing. And certainly before ripping into it with your fingernails!

We have it drummed into us to rinse thoroughly after washing. However, something I think is really important is to repeatedly wet your face, even lightly rubbing the water in with your hands, before washing. This softens the skin and gets off any superficial layer of pollution, drying dust, etc., and allows your washing product to better do its work.

Yes, fortunately I've been doing that with an old spray bottle, or just splashing water. Probably since the never-ending road work in front of my house last year. From April to November. I felt as if my pores and nasal cavities were full of dust and grime. The bit of peroxyde on the spot - on my nose(!!!!) seemed to help, it has practially gone away.
Squeezing with fingernails is feasable (at least to divest oneself of big greasy zits) at 16, but going on 60, not so much.
