This almost belongs on the word branch because I assume that the rest of you are the same as I am -- you didn't know the name for sudden twitching when you are falling asleep. Anyway, this article explains a few things about it while not being totally certain about what causes it.

It is often called myoclonus or myoclonic spasm. usually caused by a misfire of a nerve supplying a muscle.. Occurs in healthy people but more severe in people with Parkinsons and other neurological disorders

I knew about these involuntary actions, of course, but every time I glance at this thread title it reads as "hypnotizing jerks," leading my mind to wonder: if you hypnotized a jerk, could you help him/her become less of a jerk?
