The Paris water treatment company has been having an outdoor photo exhibition since last month, and I finally got a chance to go an see it, right next to Place de la Bastille. It is called Chiottissime!, made from the word chiotte (shithouse), so I figure that Crapperama is an appropriate translation, even if it is milder. It portrays toilets from all over the world, as well as toilet art and famous toilet photos. I thought it was all pretty fascinating. Albert Finney a restaurant in Taipei a fancy restaurant in Portugal Icelandic appreciation for its bankers I learned that in Mali, many girls leave school at puberty because there is no intimacy in the school toilets. Old habits die hard in the Netherlands (this would be the same photo in just about all of continental Europe, not just the Netherlands). a cryptic image Belgium mobile toilets in China an ordinary crappy day in a North Carolina prison A few parting shots. The last photo with the string instrument case is by Robert Doisneau.

Did you relegate this to the Back Pages because it's about the baccouz'? ;D It is absolutely brilliant! Sure, some of it is funny, some gross, but it's photographic art no matter how you look at it. No way would I want to eat in that potty restaurant. I wonder if guys have trouble making wee wee in the Portuguese ritzy pee pee parlor.

Well, it couldn't go in the Image Bank because my taking photos of other people's photos are not exactly my personal photos....!

I'm not complaining! (anyway, was thinking Post Cards) I just wanted to say what an impressive display it is.
Ha -- just noticed Spiderman!

Super heroes have physical needs as well, even though their outfits don't make it easy.

In rural China the communal toilets are just like the one in the prison, with low separating walls and no doors. I managed to resist the urge to go out into the jungle in the mornings and instead was the attraction of the local craparies.

When I took the train from the airport to the city upon arriving in Madras, it was about 7 a.m. and there were incredible views of rows of 10 or 15 men all squatting together on hillocks with their backs to the train. Later, in the middle of the huge city (population 4.5 million), I saw that just about any space between parked cars was considered appropriate for an impromptu bowel movement and you really had to pay attention to where you were stepping.

I was quite miffed when you didn't wave back to me from that train.

Were you close enough to see them as well?
Anyway, you're getting disgusting. This is a serious subject.

It's lucky he has his web-shooters, in case there's no potty paper.

Fascinating photos, K2. Plus it's not an exhibition (no pun intended ;D) I could imagine in many other cities. I can just hear all the prudes going berserk.
