After painstakingly combing through this garden section I could not find a thread highlighting water features. Be it pond, waterfall, etc. I have always been a huge advocate of having some type of water feature in the landscape. Aside from their being a soothing welcome addition to one's space, they also serve as a lure for migratory birds, dragonflies, toads, frogs and numerous other critters.
I have always had some type of water feature incorporated into my landscape and take great joy in the soothing affect they provide. I have to drum up some pics of my pond when I get my photo host site in order.
In the meantime, please feel free to post your favorites or inquire about advice in implementing one into your world.

I just came across this idea online and am knocked out by it. Who knew that fishies liked sightseeing?! I so wish I had a pond, but I'll take vicarious pleasure in showing this here ~
Here's a nice tall one ~

I would like to believe that fish enjoy sightseeing, but I think it is more likely that they are just looking for an escape route.

I agree K2. I would have a problem with confining the fish just as I have a problem with caged birds.
Bixa, being the resourceful person that you are, might you find a tub of some kind to have a small water feature? Your water features when you lived here were inspirational and led me to putting a pond in here. It was one of the first projects we embarked on just after acquiring our home. It remains one of the places I go and sit to relax and entertain. (Over the past couple of years we have had a problem with a great egret who comes and picks off the fish despite my efforts to camouflage. This past year he was early and I had not placed the baffle I designed to deprive him from dining here. We have named him Ernest.)

The fish are not confined. They swim up into the aquarium and back out of it into the pond at will.

I went back and looked just after posting and yes, I did see the surrounding pond.

T, and I went to the pet store to purchase some new fish because "Ernest" the egret wiped out the school I had in there, all, except for one who must have hidden him/her self real good.
The woman who waited on us said that the same happened in her pond.
In the meantime, I woke up in the middle of the night and as I had the balcony door open, I could hear the toads having a party back there on into the wee hours of the morning. Clearly they are not practicing social distancing.
I haven't been back there yet this morning but, I am anticipating that there will be a gazillion strands of their eggs in evidence.
They are early this year. Has to be due to the warmer/hot temperatures.

At some point later in the morning my trusted, efficient, strong and capable garden helper is coming over to do the annual emptying and cleaning of the goldfish pond!!! It's a very arduous task and while I was able to do it solo 20 or so years ago I could never do it now. It entails having to bale out many many gallons of water. My back just wouldn't be able to handle it. Plus, the liner is super slippery and I would surely slip and fall. At the bottom there is twice the amount of broken down twigs, oak leaves, etc. Especially after having that hurricane we had with 90mph winds that brought down mega tree debris. I am so excited to be able to have my place of refuge back again as the weather gets increasingly warmer and I can retreat back there. It's super quiet and many birds hang out there and I love to go sit there to contemplate etc.
(And, all that sludge etc. from the bottom will be recycled into a large tub and be put in the compost bin. It's like "black gold").

It is going to be like getting a whole new pond when it's all clean and nice again. I was going to ask what you'd do with the cleaned-out mess, but of course it will be giving new life to the garden. Lovely!
Some of those goldfish must be really huge by now.

But are there any goldfish in the pond?

But are there any goldfish in the pond? Initially we thought there were no remaining fish. But, as the water level decreased we saw one. A few minutes later we discovered two more. We scooped them out and put them in a large plastic container with some of the pond water. From past experience I knew they wouldn't survive in there for very long because of a lack of oxygen. My lovely next door neighbor was outside and we chatted over the fence. She graciously offered to provide them a home temporarily until we were ready to return them to their home. We released them into her "state of the art" pond. It is so much more luxurious than ours with a waterfall and other features. In the meantime, we had to wait transferring them back to their home. A series of events prohibited us from doing this in a timely fashion. (the weather being one of the major factors). Today is the day we anticipate completing this task. In addition to the three residing there we plan to go and acquire @ 10 more. After lapping in luxury I wonder if they will not want to leave their glamorous home.
