I'm getting tired of my summer cold. Coughing isn't the worst part, but now I am feeling listless as well. At least I finally had the satisfaction of hocking up a big blob of phlegm.

Well my coughing is almost finished, probably because my lungs are now ripped to shreds.

Sorry to hear that, kerouac. I think some new bug must have developed - after a couple of years of no real colds, I had two long-lasting bouts something similar last winter. In the past, the coughing came as the last stage of a cold, this time it's been mostly coughing lasting for far longer than usual, and not many of the other symptoms. It's rotten. Yes, that's pretty much it exactly. I think tod2 sent it to me from South Africa.

I'm feeling much more feverish than earlier in the day, but it actually makes me feel more comfortable because the fever seems to be baking the aches and pains out of my system. With a little luck, it will also fry the germs or virus that caused this.

Last week the doctor prescribed a treatment of antibiotics and two kinds of inhalers. I finished the antibiotic treatment yesterday and it does not seem to have been effective at all. The inhalers (to be used no more than 4 times a day) do not have any immediate effect (and that is at least pointed out on the instruction sheet), but I have slightly more confidence in them. In any case today was just slightly better than previous days, but the fact that it has been going on for so long is annoying. My doctor left on summer holiday on Friday, so if I don't feel like things have improved significantly by Wednesday or so, I'll go to a medical centre for new consultations.

With a very raw throat and swollen neck glands, I suppose I'm sick for the first time since last spring. I don't have time for this.

I seem to have an immunity to most school-type germs. I treated my oldest to a pair of new shoes and a pedicure at the mall a couple of days ago for her birthday. Since malls are places I do not frequent, I assume that's where I picked up the nasty germs.

I would guess the mall too. I hope it passes soon HT. Sounds miserable.
And, here I was going to whine about fighting a head cold, the type confined to the constant runny nose, annoying enough as it is, but not incapacitating.

Sniffly, runny noses are certainly no fun either.

Since malls are places I do not frequent, I assume that's where I picked up the nasty germs. That seems so unfair! Indeed, no good deed goes unpunished. Hope you're feeling better. Casimira, I know what you mean about that kind of head cold. It makes me crazy when I'm trying to get something done & have to repeatedly stop to honk into a hanky.

It's real annoying. And, food tastes just aren't the same either. In fact, I have no food taste. I used a homemade horseradish mayonaisse on our sandwiches for lunch and, could not taste the horseradish at all.

i had a bad cold recently, but fortunately it is gone - except for an occasional cough, but that one seems to always happen when i bring agnes to bed and she is just about to fall asleep and then i start coughing uncontrollably ...

Three days ago, my 51 year old cousin was found dead in her apartment after weeks of having a bad cough, ostensibly from the flu. I imagine her heart gave out; we'll have to wait for the autopsy.
Please, if anyone is that ill, make sure they see a doctor. Hypochondriacs are a drain on everyone's time, energy and money, but the opposite condition, refusing to ever go to a doctor, is just as bad.

Lizzy very sorry to read about your cousin. Very important advice.
A positive item to share is that we received notice today that we have a new doctor.

The last day or two that I was in Paris I had a funny throat and feared a cold coming on. It began as a dry cough on the homebound Eurostar on Monday, Tuesday and Weds were bad with a runny nose, now I'm left with a cough which hurts my diaphragm, so hoping a good nights sleep and paracetamol will see it gone. It is a long time since I have had such a bad cough.

Take care of yourself, mossie. I had a friend who, at the first sign of a cold would go to bed with a bottle of Stone's Green Ginger Wine and not get up until it was gone. You could always try that!

Thanks, ladies. It was a shock, but I wasn't that close to her as I hadn't seen her for 20 some odd years, living 4,000 km from her. My other cousin, whom I am very close to, is quite upset.

very sorry about your cousin, lizzy.
and you are right about going to the doctor, and taking care of yourself. many years ago, an ex-gf of my brother, whom he was still friends with, died of a mycardial inflammation at age 30, probably caused by not taking some simple illnesses serious ...

We too arrived home from our holiday with a cold Mossie and are having to take some medication and rest to recover, wishing you a quick recovery! I think in our case we might have done a little too much.
We have an appointment with our new doctor at month end. Yes! we are pretty happy about that and have heard many good things about him so we are pleased he accepted us.

The cough that I had for 3 weeks in July was definitely painful to the diaphragm, as well as to most of my other abdominal muscles. I couldn't recall every having had anything like it.
