I might dream about job responsibilities, but I will be totally shocked if I dream about former colleagues, other than maybe one person. I spent 14 years in my last job and have had no relevant dreams since leaving.

I have no idea what has provoked this in me, except for the fact that departure from the company was traumatic for everybody. So I presume that I have not totally digested the event. It is more than likely that numerous ex-colleagues have dreamed of me since I am the person responsible for their current situation. I did learn that I was mentioned yesterday at a sort of reunion dinner in an Islamic restaurant in Belleville -- owned by one of my former colleagues. I was supposed to be invited apparently, but the person paying for the meal did not have contact information for me.

not a nice dream last night - dreamt that the son of a friend, a little boy agnes' age, was dead. he was for some reason staying at my mom's, and when i returned there she told me he had an aneurysm and died, and she had already buried him and had not told his parents. i said the parents have to be told, but wasn't sure if i should call them right away, or drop by when i get back to town (i said it in these words in my dream). i decided to call then, but wasn't sure at all how to tell them their child was dead.
the scary thing about the dream was, that while i knew this is something really horrible to happen, i didn't feel all that upset in the dream, nor did the other people - though i knew the boy's parents would be very upset (the dream ended at the beginning of the phone call though).
i will probably see my friend and her son today, i suppose seeing him happy and healthy will be good, so i am reminded it was just a dream ...

rikita, my mother's philosophy was that dreams about death are dreams about great change - and usually for the better. She was a great believer in symbology. I have no idea what that means in the context of your dream, but I'm glad that all has turned out well.

I've been going through a tough time lately, after auditioning for 3 straight jobs in a row and not getting any of them. Last night, I dreamt that I was with the last director I auditioned for and he that he kissed me and tried to go further. Considering I am friends with both him and his wife, I have no idea what that means.
Then, after many adventures with people from my past, I ended up in my childhood kitchen with someone I knew from my student days, now a quite famous actor. He and I were painting the walls, and I was so very concerned that it was not what my mother would have liked. I'm sure my mother would have had a great time with that symbolism.

I had a rather boring and stressful dream last night. I was taking an international flight with two friends (?) and whereas I am the sort of person who likes to check in as soon as possible, they refused to check in until the last minute -- 5 minutes before closing time. So I rushed to the check-in area with them and couldn't find my passport, then I found it, and then for some reason I needed an ID photo and couldn't find it, then I found it, and the dream ended just because I was totally pissed off to be in a hurry.

We have a saying in our family, "If you're on time, you're late." Most of us follow that motto faithfully and become extremely stressed when under the control of a "last minute" person. I'm probably the most extreme of the group, so that dream would have been a nightmare for me.

I am with you both. In fact, I have my wristwatch set 9 minutes early, and I run my life according to that schedule. Being late is a nightmare for me.

I was married to someone who did that, but he always tried to "fake out" his watch and constantly managed to run late.

Actually, there was a minor consolation in my dream, if it had continued a bit longer. I had a business class ticket and the others didn't (if only that were true in real life), so I was thinking that I would get my 'revenge' because they would be in bad seats due to the late check-in but that I'd have a good seat no matter what.

Nope. I obey my watch. I am strongly suggestable. It just gets problematic when I obey the watch and then add another 10 minutes to my buffer. Waaaay early.

You cannot kid yourself, which is in effect what you are doing by setting the watch early.Although setting the watch early can backfire.
In the dark ages, when the RAF vainly tried to teach me to be a navigator, we were issued with special watches. Don't forget this was well before quartz crystal timing, computers, GPS etc. etc. We were taught how to check them and set them. If they gained more than 10 secs, or lost more than 5 secs, in a day they were "unserviceable" and had to be traded in to the stores for a new one. In any event they had to be traded in every two years. My first one was a Jaeger le Coultre so they were good watches. I always regret I didn't hang on to it, but we were told if we lost a watch we would be charged double its cost of £28. (Told you it was the dark ages!) We were getting 7 shillings (35 pence) a day at the time so it was a big penalty.

As a PS to the above. We were being taught how to use a sextant to find our position by the Sun and moon, or by the stars. A second in timing error meant a mile in the fix position, so in addition to all the other calculations one had to know the rate at which ones watch gained or lost, so an appropriate allowance could be made.

Just the concept of a sextant has always fascinated me since I absolutely cannot imagine how it could possibly work. This is perhaps only second to a slide rule, which I learned to use in school to make completely meaningless calculations which were never even explained to us. At least I know that a sextant was supposed to provide a real position, but what the fuck were those slide rule numbers for?

You give the right answer htmb, but the slide rule was the computer of its day, so there.
A lecture on the sextant would take up more space than is possible here. Don't forget it was the GPS of its day.
Navigation is always "by guess and by God"', or just wet your finger and hold it up.

I had the most vivid dream last night/this morning. It was of a pair of cedar waxwings (due to come through here soon but, no sightings yet). Anyway, they were in a tree that doesn't exist location wise just off our upstairs balcony, very close. In the dream, my husband and I were standing just a few feet away from them, they showed no signs of being startled at all and my husband said, "oh there you are, we've been waiting for you." We admired them and eventually they flew off. Generally, the waxwings travel in large flocks when they arrive, unusual to see just a pair of them. It was quite beautiful and as my husband put it "auspicious".

Probably because I go to see so many movies, I am often an observer of my dreams rather than a participant. The split might even be 50/50 although I have not made any specific calculations. Nevertheless, even when I am just an observer, I seem to have a certain amount of influence over what happens.

in the morning, if a. wakes up before seven, i usually send her to mr. r. (who is up from five thirty usually), and lie down for a bit again. when he gets ready to leave for work, he sends her back to me and we cuddle a bit and she always asks for nursing then. now, i want to stop daytime nursing soon, so this morning i thought it is better i get up before she comes to bed, to avoid the situation. so when i heard him getting his shoes and keys, i stood up, and called to him to not send her in. i heard him bringing her to the bed room door though, and shouted louder to just turn on the light but leave her in the living room, i will be right there. somehow, i couldn't get my voice to be loud though, and hurried to the door. only when he turned on the bed room light though, did i realize i was still lying in bed, eyes closed, asleep, and hadn't shouted anything at all.

Last night in his sleep my son called out 'MUM!' about three times which got me out of bed and hammering on his door only to hear him snoring away. He doesn't remember anything about it....

Last night I dreamed that I had joined the army but my eldest grandson was with me. We were cooking a barbecue for the people in our hut but needed fuel so grandson got a rolled carpet and I tore bits off it. It wasn't very effective. we were cooking huge chunks of beef.
Weird or what......

i had a strange dream last night with lots of story lines, only some of which i remember. one thing was, that i was pregnant. as in, close-to-giving-birth pregnant. and i was only just coming to terms with having a second baby and wondering what to tell mr. r. - but at the same time i was worried as i was already quite a bit past the due date and nothing was happening. i was seeing this gyn who worked for the travel agency where i used to book my flights in my early 20s, and told her about how my normal gyn always only asks me if i am alright, but never checks anything, even though she was good during my first pregnancy. the travel agency gyn agreed that it is no wonder i want a different doctor. i wondered a bit though if my health insurance will accept me seeing two doctors. then i saw her writing down something and realized she put down the name of my travel insurance, rather than health insurance, and again i wondered if they would accept paying for this ...
i followed her to ask her, and we took a bus together, and when we got on the bus, she was glad to find her wallet and some coins she had lost in the same bus earlier in the day, still lying on her old seat.
there was also an exam i was taking, and a party, where someone held speaches, i think it was something about canada. and the exam wasn't exactly meant for me, but i participated, it was a very long exam, at least twelve hours, and as it was overnight, everyone slept for a while. i mistakenly woke the person next to me though, and then everyone woke up from that, and started writing again, as there were only four hours left now, and i realized i had only notes so far, no text, and should start writing too, but i was so tired.
had to get off the bus at some point and look for the place to drop of my exam papers, but still had nothing written.
then it felt a bit like i might be going into labor, and that scared me, but at the same time i thought that might be a good way to get out of that exam ...

I love that dream, rikita. I only finally stopped dreaming about exams and classes when I stopped working about 2 years ago. Apparently, the two were linked.
