I just downloaded an SNCF train app to my phone, then booked prem tickets for €10 each for a daytrip I plan to take the end of June. Booking for this particular city well in advance got me cheaper rates, I am sure. The confirmation information and barcodes were saved in the app, and I was sent a confirmation email which I plan to print out as backup.
My friend had been suggesting I do this for awhile, and that's how she booked her tickets from Paris to her family home and back. I suppose, as with everything, there are pitfalls, but this sure was easy to do. Now I'm thinking I can also use this for day trips to closer cities rather than having to purchase my ticket at the gare. If I wanted to go to Chartres tomorrow, for example, and I didn't want to purchase my ticket at the station, I could just use the app, make the purchase with my credit card, show up for the train, and go. I will have Mobile/Internet service and wifi available at the apartment I've rented. Sure beats standing in line or dealing with a purchase at a train station when I'd need coins or a chip and pin card to use a machine. Pitfalls?
