Thanks, Bixa. In my dreams ....
Kerouac, thanks for responding to Tod.
And Lizzy....get yourself to feeling better and take a little trip on your own, or go to Paris early and meet up with your husband later.

Yes, definitely. What towns or cities does he like in Europe?

I hope there will be more. I'm willing to wait.
Your photo of the cafe scene, with the leaves overhead, some people in full light, the waiter in the shade, captures a beautiful moment that says summer to me.

Thank you, Breeze. Quite perceptive of you! That was the night of the Fête de la Musique when I was walking around the islands looking for some interesting photo opportunities.

Bjd, here's the only other angle I got of the big head. Here's a link to Kerouac's 2009 photos of the head. Post #9: anyportinastorm.proboards.com/thread/2267/statuesThe head is located on a plaza between Saint Eustache and an entrance to Les Halles. I did manage to get a few photos of the Eiffel Tower last Thursday.

Well you certainly got around and have shown us some good pictures, I haven't been to half the places you show, and my visits run into the teens now. My wife would have split her sides laughing to see me described as "interesting".

Well, Mossie, it's a family friendly forum. I had to keep it clean. :-)

Thanks for the extra picture of the head, htmb. I had forgotten that Kerouac had already posted something about it. In a country where people don't pick up after their dogs, I didn't think of a head when I saw your first picture.

Well, bjd, that would have been one giant dog!

Or, one giant turd!

What I meant was the dog that dropped the turd. :-)

I enjoyed darting around Paris with you Htmb and was quite chuffed that I could immediately recognise a lot of locations in your photos! I particularly liked the shot of the cafe and the waiters standing watching over their brood.
I thought those striped pillars were supposed to be removed years ago?! Hoping that you will give us more photos and a description of your wanderings.

Thank you so much, Tod. I think I'm probably done posting photos of my trip, as I must try to shift gears and move on back into the world of reality. I had too good a time!
About those waiters. That's the one Paris restaurant where I've ever had a waiter act like an ass. It was several years ago when I spoke even less French than I know now. Maybe I did something wrong, but don't think so. My then twenty year old daughter and I still talk about what a brat he was when we stopped there one afternoon for a drink. Perhaps he was having a bad day.

Hey hey! You ain't gonna get away with out telling where and what!!! PM me if necessary! We had awful service at the place opposite St.Chapelle. The waiter besides being off-hand had the biggest blackheads on a nose that I've ever seen! Ooh I wanted to grab it so badly and squeeze the life out of it.
I know (now...) that waiters in Paris are professionals and regarded as a proper job. It's not like here and the States where you serve people food until you can move on to something better. I think they like the status of being all mighty in charge. In my home town you will not get a tip for good service if you have not fulfilled that roll. In Paris it's automatically whisked away!

Tod, were you actually tipping in Paris?

Tod. I don't mind telling you in a PM, but it was just one waiter serving us cola on a hot, late June afternoon. Not a big deal, but something that has been part of the lore of that particular trip. More a bonding moment for me and baby daughter than anything else. :-)

I had several very good restaurant lunches while in France, but all dinners, both in La Rochelle and Paris, were eaten in except for this one. (Photo taken, and just sent to me, by my friend.)

Oh gawd, I can smell the sizzle of that meat! And the green beans – perfectly prepared & enough of them. Guess the French don't subscribe to that silly convention of token, undercooked & underseasoned sad sides.

Htmb- I bet those lamb chops cost an arm and a leg! I once had to eat a plateful of green beans with roughly 6 shavings of preserved duck on top. I must admit that my fondness for green beans was not vanquished.....altho I don't know how!
