Pigeons are so stupid and random but when you take a picture of them, they look as though they know that they are doing, which is not true.

And they taste better, too. My grandfather used to go and buy them directly at a farm and then kill them by inching their kidneys. Then you pluck them while they're still warm.

Had a beautiful jay on the garden fence this morning...son was ecstatic as he'd not seen one before. Too quick for us to take a pic unfortunately.

I have eaten wood pigeon once or twice but I am not sure that it will ever be my go to choice. Had a beautiful jay on the garden fence this morning...son was ecstatic as he'd not seen one before. Too quick for us to take a pic unfortunately. They are lovely indeed - I used to see them a lot when we lived previously but now very rarely.

Beautiful but deadly...the bird was raiding a small bird's nest taking young...feathers were flying and the little birds were mobbing it.

I wish that swans were as nice as they look, but they are really nasty animals, almost as bad as geese. Or maybe even worse.

Lovely pictures, Lugg. Especially love the water in the first one.
Cheery, are you referring to jays or to swans? I think they're both supposed to be bumptious birds.

I always wondered when they started swimming. Although it looks like the water is shallow enough to stand up.

I didn't know there was such a word as swannery, Lugg, & now of course want to work it into a conversation. I absolutely love those first two shots and the third one finally explains why a cygnet really is an "ugly duckling". I used to live on a canal that had lots of ducks. Yes, I know this is about swans, but... those little waterfowl start swimming awfully early. There would go the mother duck swimming away with her children paddling after. I'd be looking on fondly when suddenly one would disappear, pulled below by a creature of the deep.

We are all plagued by pigeons, or 'flying rats' as Ken Livingstone christened them when he was Mayor of London, but for some time recently a pure white dove has been visiting my garden Today he had a mate with him, rather shy because luckily I took the precaution of shooting this snap through the kitchen window, as soon as I stepped outside they were off
