Well, as some sage poster from my early days of posting on forums as a neophyte once said; threads sometime take on a life of their own.... What better way to start than with on such a topic than an "I"?.
Actually. what happened is ,I had every intent on posting a sentiment etc. on this topic and was interrupted in the process...and, lost my train of thought....
In thinking about it some more, I am curious as to why certain topics germane to this thread, whatever, seem to be avoided. Depression,, self medication, abuse, etc. have been kept secret or denied' all the topics that seem to be so pervasive, and, are surely a part of every day life and situations we have all been in whether or not we want to address them in whatever form, subjective or not,;and are such a prevalent form of society as we know it, like it, or deny it, it is there.

Now you have me wondering if anybody here has done time in prison or anyone in their family who has. I think my brother spent a night in the drunk tank once shortly after his first divorce.

This is an interesting topic, casimira. One I admit I know little about.
Recently while traveling I did come across someone who had some kind of issues with depression. But to be honest I don't exactly know what it was. But something was not quite right, and at least they realized this and were seeking help. I hope they find it.
I think in society in general more people than we realize do suffer silently from disorders of the mind. And sad to say, these are maybe the last taboo. No one wants to discuss them.
