Our younger girl Hannah likes to play a song or two, nice and loud, and dance around the kitchen. She and I do this together once a week or so, generally when her Daddy's not home, each making suggestions. She'll be going to London in the fall for a year grad studies at King's College, and I'll miss her and this thing we do.
To document for my own pleasure, and because these are worthy tunes, I'll post two from tonight and others from recently.
Otis Redding: These Arms of Mine
We yell, "Sing it Otis!" from time to time.
Ann Peebles: I Can't Stand the Rain
In a lovely thunderstorm, me closing windows.
Last week,
Joan Baez: Diamonds and Rust
Paul Simon, Ladysmith Black Mambazo: Diamonds in the Soles of her Shoes
Etta James: Son of Preacher Man

A few weeks ago, my suggestions during a difficult day and new ones on her:
Bobby McFerrin: Don't Worry Be Happy
The Beach Boys: Don't Worry Baby
It worked!

But all worthy suggestions, yes indeed.

Great choices.
I saw Paul Simon and Ladysmith Black Mambazo live in London when they bought Graceland out. Probably one of my most played tapes (as they were then) along with Rumours.

I was hoping these were going to be actual videos of Hannah and Lola dancing. Nice music!

Ha, thanks all.
Ladysmith was in our town a few weeks ago, at a fine little concert hall with supposedly perfect acoustics. Hannah was working that evening, and I couldn't think of anyone else who'd appreciate it, so I let it pass. Durnit.
Lizzy, I don't even like to glimpse myself in the mirror during these episodes, outer reality in no way reflecting inner. Hannah's is worth seeing, but I hate to miss the moment by trying to capture it.

So, I asked Hannah who would be a living, recording equivalent of Otis R. Her closest equivalent was John Legend, maybe, and this guy Aloe Blacc. Last spring in London, a friend of hers drove her around London with this song playing loudly:
The Man
I like this one, too:
I Need a Dollar
So this was tonight's.
(My closest recent equivalent was Amy Winehouse, who unfortunately fails to meet the specifications. Anyone else?)
