A normal Monday with nothing to show that anything was abnormal in the corridors of power in Canberra. Mid morning Malcolm Turnbull goes to Prime Minister Abbott and resigns his ministry and says he is going to challenge for position of PM.
Furious phone calling by both to count their numbers then Abbott calls the spill (voting procedure)for this evening. Lots of speeches late afternoon mainly pointing out the total ineptitude of Abbott. Results of voting...Abbott 44 and Turnbull 54
People have started putting onions on their doorsteps to signify "the tears we shed when Abbott was in charge"
Turnbull is an investment banker and a man who listens to the people.
4pm was when the media first heard the rumour, by 8pm we had a new PM.
Thank goodness the clown has gone and his arrogant and foolish attitude to the voters with him.

Happy for Australia to be rid of this horrible man, hope the new guy is better although I don't expect much improvement from the completely mis-named Australian "Liberal" party.

A normal Monday with nothing to show that anything was abnormal in the corridors of power in Canberra. As I understand it, a party meeting last week on whether or not to have a leadership ballot had already shown a fair proportion of the parliamentary party willing to vote against him (i.e., in principle, without any other candidate putting themselves forward), which is a fair sign that his authority as leader was shaky and therefore his days were numbered. Just how small that number was, depended on Turnbull taking his chances. Ha! I only wish we could get rid of Abbott's boreal twin, but this niqab shit is giving wings to his campaign...

Oh No! From what I have heard about Canadian politics, your PM is worse than Abbott was. It seemed that he was about to take a long walk on a short jetty,(as we say) Be brave, Canadians, democracy is in your voting hands.

We tried to vote today at an advance poll and did not even get in the building. We were stopped outside and told to try again later in the day or come back tomorrow. The line-up was so long that people were waiting for over an hour to vote. In all my years of voting I have never encountered this! Hopefully a very good sign for a large voter turnout. We will go back tomorrow.
