Tonight Kerouac and I have a dinner date at the Alexandre Dumas School of Cooking.
The school insists you make an appearance on time which is 7pm for 7.15pm. I am a little concerned with the time it takes to get there so set off after breakfast to do a dummy-run.
Kerouac gave me the route when we discussed the menu and date. From Nation I was to take the metro to Porte de Vincennes and there take the T3a to Porte de Versailles. Here I take the metro Line 12 to Convention.
So off I go and one and a half hours later(because of my dawdling and uncertainty), emerged in the 15 arr.
Walking up Rue de Convention to Rue de Cronstadt I see this wonderful array in the pastry shop window.

Every one a work of art.

After determining exactly where the venue was I hightailed it back to the metro and spend the next couple of hours finding a Chateau with a road through the middle.
It is the former Chateau Des Ternes with the unusual feature of a pedestrian area (part of Rue Bayen) running through it.
A portal, some relics, and two 18th century facades are all that remain of the vast property.
In the 15th century a fortified farm existed here surrounded by a wide expanse of countryside. The chateau often changed hands through inheritance or sale and was always being converted. It reached the height of it's fame in mid-18thC when it became a magnificent, exquisitely furnished residence, decorated with tapestries from Flanders.
It was when architect Samson-Nicolas Lenoir became the new owner he sold up the contents of the house and built a new road right through the main building.

On the way back to the metro I notice this unusual Wallace fountain. It has none of the four ladies holding up the basin of water.

I go back to the hotel and change for dinner. I am apprehensive about the three changes in my route and take a daring gamble by taking line 6 as far as Pasteur and then connecting with line 12 which Kerouac will be taking.
When I get to Pasteur there is a problem with the metro trains. I text Kerouac and warn him of this delay.
Finally we get moving and I get to Cafe Convention our meeting place. I enjoy a Kir Royal whilst I wait. It is getting on for 7pm when Mr.K emerges from the metro having suffered a long hot journey.
We do make the venue in plenty time and are shown our table.
Firstly we are offered an aperitif from a small table.
Our waiter is very very nervous as he brings our bread rolls under the watchful eye of the lady instructor.
We have selected Menu for Mardi - 6th October @19euros
Pissaladiere to start
Filet de daurade a` l'anis, bulbe de fenouil braise` for the main course
Plateau de fromages affine`s
Salade de fruits frais, for dessert.

The tables were set beautifully, and our waiter (bless his heart) kept us entertained by his nervousness. The food was delicious and we walked back to a cafe for a coffee before going back to the metro.
