You've really caught the fun summer spirit!
Shame about the swimming pools. I suppose they must be very popular when in use.
I kind of want to try the giant inflatable tubes.

This will help you imagine how you would do in one of them, Bixa.

That's great, at last they are making good use of the Bassin

Ha ~ I can envision myself in the tubes more than I ever could ziplining. It all looks like fun, although I guess I'll have to put aside my stiletto heels when I visit the Plages.

Oh, this is great. Over the years I have marveled at the different things you've shown of Paris repeatedly deciding, "let's do something fun and nice for everyone". Your latest post typifies that spirit with really wonderful and exuberant photos.
You mention in the post of July 31 that it had been chilly, but the most recent pictures capture the spirit of a sunny day. Was it very hot yesterday?
Those foozball tables are an inspired addition to the fun!

This is so good to see. They have really gone to town with the wooden flooring and the misters. It is always fairly popular with the locals at normal times, perhaps this will encourage people from further afield to visit this non tourist part of Paris. Pity it will all be gone by the time of my next trip at the end of next month.

You mention in the post of July 31 that it had been chilly, but the most recent pictures capture the spirit of a sunny day. Was it very hot yesterday? Those foozball tables are an inspired addition to the fun! What is even better is that Paris inspired at least 50 other cities to do this sort of thing every summer, in France and in the neighbouring countries. There is very little media coverage these days since it has become "normal," but one of the principal benefits shown on the news in the past was the fact that it gave something to do for families that could not afford to go away on holiday, and there are millions of those. Many poor parents used to be horribly embarrassed in the past because their children did not have the opportunity to go anywhere, and then they would go back to school and all of their friends would talk about their great vacations just about anywhere else. Now the kids who stayed in Paris can often make their friends jealous when they tell them about using the zip line or sailing on boats every day.
Fussball (official spelling for most people) is always popular, but one thing that somewhat annoys the French is that even though it was invented by the English in 1922, it was popularised by the French (the name here is the somewhat ridiculous "baby foot"), who build most of the tables, but when it spread around the world, it was the German name that caught on.

Today a young man drowned in the Bassin de la Villette. He was 26 years old and jumped into the water, but not in one of the official swimming pools. He did not resurface. Another person jumped in to pull him out, but it was too late. One can only assume that something else was wrong with him physically, but we don't have the details yet.
The article that I read said that 121 people have drowned in France so far this summer.

That seems like an exceptional number of drownings! Is it because of the heat -- maybe that more people are swimming in unsafe places?

No, I think that France is just a major seaside destination. And people drink.
