Such a pity good holidays fade fast when one is back home, the suitcases stored for another year and life resumes it's hectic pace. At least I have a few photos to remind me of that wonderful time!
From Paris our tour took us to Metz for a night then on to Wilderwil, a small village only a 10 minute train ride from Interlaken Ost. I never new Interlaken was split in two - East and West - but of course it is, that's why it's called 'Interlaken' meaning between the two lakes. Those being Lake Brienz and Lake Thun.
Nothing prepares you for the sudden beauty as the train rides alongside Lake Thun as you approach Interlaken.
The rolling hills with those cute little ( and not so little) wooden chalets.

Soon we were off the train at Interlaken Ost and boarding the little local train to Wilderswil.

View from our room window - not wonderful but the room was huge by hotel standards. We have never stayed in a wooden house before so it took some getting used to the creaking floors, staircase and all things wooden.

At dinner it was announced that we were to have our 'free day at leisure' the next morning instead of later in the week. The weather was sunny and glorious. The hotel served a hearty breakfast and gave us the option of taking a packed lunch. We set off down the road to the train station and took the train to Interlaken Ost to meet one of the many boats plying Lake Brienz from shore to shore.
