Perhaps Trump is already looking for a place where he can apply for political asylum in the future.

Apparently Trump prefers to believe his friend Putin ... Along with everything else, his dumb kid admiration of "strong men" is creepy and worrisome.

Yep. Watching tv where someone said he likes strong men. But dislikes strong women. Starting with Hilary then Angela and even May.

My disdain to put it mildly, regarding Hillary, runs so deep that I would never ascribe her as being a "strong woman".
The comment speaks volumes yes.

I'm posting the link to Obama's 100th anniversary Mandela discourse not because I agree with everything he says, but because coherent discourse does have value: www.nelsonmandela.org/content/page/annual-lecture-2018No, it isn't four hours long! Obama starts to speak well after the two-hour point. I'd say it is about the length of a standard university lecture, and can be listened to in shorter segments. But I wasn't satisfied with the soundbites provided by most major English-language media. He doesn't refrain from skewering democratic deficits, discriminations and corruption in the global south, including his host country and his father's homeland. Casimira, I share your lack of enthusiam for Ms Clinton, though of course it isn't really my business except as an observer and neighbour. While I may well live closer to Bernie's town than anyone else on this board (excuse that if there are any Vermonters or northern NY state people among us) I don't really have any say beyond seeing public healthcare as a given, though a given always under threat even in the UK and Canada.

And good-natured and sel-deprecating, as well as intelligent. Too bad US presidents are term-limited.

The phrase rang a bell: "The words of French Neo-Socialist, and Vichy France official, Marcel Déat may be repeated with their original intent if the collaboration movement continues on its dangerous path. “Why die for Danzig?”

Whereas I understand that this is very good news generally, I truly hate that it might make the dangerous pig look good: US and EU agree to work towards lower trade barriers: www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-44961560

Cheer up, Bixa. Nothing can make him look good.
"Tariffs are great!" "Oh shit, we have to give US farmers subsidies because the new tariffs are hurting them."

It's an electoral gimmick. Also, he might have to go and court India once China and Russia both reject him.

Today we had a discussion with a supplier who said they had to increase their price because they have a subisdiary in China that delivers subcomponents and is subject to tarrifs. And it is only the beginning.

And they’re justifying it as a safety measure-if cars are less efficient, the added expense will cause people to drive less (probably true) and as a result there will be fewer accidents and fewer deaths and injuries. Do you believe it?! And the GOP decries the “nanny state” in which liberals promote “sin taxes” to discourage bad behaviors like smoking and drinking.

And if US carmakers are allowed to make gas-guzzlers, they will have even more trouble exporting their cars to Europe and Asia. So Trump will be able to complain about how the EU and China are unfair.

They were saying on the radio this morning that something like 55% of the cars sold in the United States this year are SUVs or worse, so the world is going to hell in a handbasket with or without Trump. Nobody cares about the environment anymore.

SUVs get better gas mileage today than cars used to. It’s all relative.
But when Americans rent a car in Europe, they learn that our fuel economy is way behind most of the world.
It’s our Wild West endless frontier outlook, I think.

It’s our Wild West endless frontier outlook, I think. Then again, the infrastructure of roads and streets is often so deplorable that SUVs are perhaps necessary. God forbid that the roads be repaired; that would just be government meddling and "tax-and-spend" politics. Perhaps Trump could get the Mexicans to pay for it.
