You know the Victor Borge phonetic punctuation sketch? Anyone? Yes! Old enough to remember that and others.

I feel the same about the conservative party in the UK. I just hope that '45' doesn't get voted in again...as it is it will take decades to correct the damage he's caused (quite a lot like the Tory party here...) If we get the politicians we deserve then both the US and the UK have a lot to answer for... I so hate to cross swords with my lovely Cheery but the history of the Labour Party and the economy is littered with disasters.

I remember him saying that he met Lyndon Johnson who picked him up by the ears and said “You’re a Great Dane”.

Mickthecactus dear...I couldn't agree more! I have no faith in Labour either. However I do find some form of socialism more palatable than conservative policy, I'm sure that what we need are sensible, compassionate, intelligent and strong politicians..and it seems mad in this day and age that we find ourselves still embroiled in party politics. I don't really know the solution, but the interests of the country and ALL it's people should come before the interests of the politician (or their party). I suppose that people follow a particular part because it's traditinal policies/views reflect their own...But I find that I agree with a few policies from different parties...including the Greens and the Liberal Democrats. I have a a deep distrust of the Conservative party tho...more so since Thatcher. (I also absolutely loathed Blair)

Unfortunately the days of patriotic politicians, such as Churchill, Attlee, Eden, Gaitskill etc., have long been replaced by more self interested people up to the point where we have today's rabble. I think I have said before that we now have a choice between Mammon and Marx and neither are any good for us.

Meanwhile, Trump plans to dump 100’s of asylum seekers in the (Democrat-run) “Sanctuary cities”, in retribution for them defying his whims on immigration and deportation.

President Trump again derided France in front of the NRA the other day, saying that just a few armed citizens would have stopped the massacre at the Bataclan. He is the head of a country of armed citizens, and 1607 of them have been killed in mass shootings since the Bataclan.

So, Donald Trump is at an all time high in the latest Gallup poll -- 46% approval rating and rising.
As a former president said, "it's the economy, stupid!"
Get ready for four more years.

Trump hand picks the (usually skewed) polls he chooses to trumpet, and calls the rest “fake news”.

If only that were true. I didn't even know that he had trumpeted that poll.

Réélecting G W B was already hard to swallow but if Trump gets a second term I'll find it unbearable.

Réélecting G W B was already hard to swallow but if Trump gets a second term I'll find it unbearable. I could not agree more whatagain. Having spent 2 weeks away from the constant coverage was enjoyable. Today I spent time doing laundry and had the television on but purposely put the channel on talk shows instead of any news channels to avoid even hearing his name.

"On Sunday, President Trump plans to attend the final match of an annual spring (sumo) tournament in Tokyo, where he will present a custom-made trophy to the winner, drawing international attention to the country’s national sport."
From today's NY Times. Apparently Trump will get to wear slippers in the ring when he presents the trophy. I would have preferred him to wear a loincloth and his orange hair in a topknot. He would fit right in with the fat sumo wrestlers.

Actually, they are far fitter than he is. Although they are beefy, they train hard. It would be funny though. He no longer has enough hair to make a proper bun.

That is actually a fake news headline, which I saw everywhere, too. From what I read, he said that she had said a nasty thing about him (she was one of the Americans who said they would move to Canada if he was elected). In my own comprehension of the language, that is not the same as calling a person nasty, but it certainly makes for an eye-catching headline.

I was wondering whatever happened to the "checks and balances" we were always told are part of the US democratic system. How can Trump unilaterally declare tariffs on Mexican goods? I understand that he is trying to change the subject re the Mueller report, but surely Congress is supposed to say something?
I see he is also saying that Boris Johnson should be next British PM. That should be the kiss of death for Johnson, shouldn't it?

I understand that he is trying to change the subject re the Mueller report, but surely Congress is supposed to say something? Well, yes -- you are absolutely right there are supposed to be checks & balances. There are three branches of government: the legislature, executive, and judiciary and the president is not supposed to be above the law nor to usurp the powers of the other branches. I don't know what it's going to take to stop him, especially since that shit about not indicting a sitting president keeps being cited. That is not something that is written into law. I guess we'll all just keep sitting around hating the motherfucker until we finish sliding all the way into fascism.

Sorry for relating a somewhat inaccurate headline. It is also odd, as MM was living in Toronto at the time, as that city was subbing for NYC in the TV series "Suits". She had bought a house there, and was living there with her two dogs.
And I have no recall as to how on earth I happened to remember that nugget.

The beeb is terribly excited about the arrival of Trump for his 3 day visit..as he landed he tweeted that the Mayor of London is an idiot. The BBC reporter is desperately blathering on in an extremely irritating voice...if only I could be bothered to drag myself off the chair to reach the remote control...
