I am going to have to read that in sections, as it is so upsetting. It's a well-written article that seems to understand the culture in that part of the country. All of these reports, as well as of course being horrifying in what they describe, are disconcerting to me because I used to live there and was fond of the area. I lived in Port Isabel, which now has a "Service Processing Center". My sister was only an hour and a half away in McAllen, where she still lives. I routinely drove to Brownsville, mostly to walk across the border into Matamoros. So many Mexicans used to cross over to the US in the mornings "to visit a friend". One thing that always threw me when I lived there, though, was the attitude some Mexican-Americans had toward Mexicans, whom they referred to as "nationals". They were disparaging of the country and of its people, which was bizarre as so many inhabitants of that area have ties on the other side, ties as recent as grandparents or parents from Mexico, some of whom still lived there.

Well, that lovely pediatrician is also from the area. That got me crying; how on earth can people treat babies like that?

Trump tweeted that if illegal migrants were not satisfied of how they were treated in the camps they should stay home. Problem settled. Typical if the guy and will get him more votes. I don't think he even realised he said something clever fir his electors. Electors that as Mossie states could one day be turned into SS. I WANT TO CRY.

Jair Bolsonaro has outdone Trump again. Now he's defending child labour brasil.elpais.com/brasil/2019/07/05/opinion/1562353579_181800.htmlOf course children have always helped out on farms and in craftwork, but that is not what is being decried. And there is the little matter of universal public education. He seems to be defending Auschwitz as well, but I might be misreading his rant as my Portuguese is shaky at best.

This is from someone called Tengrain Extremely Stable Genius: All is lost, especially my satchel. The flight wench is out of mead, and the privy is a-shambles. War is hell.

Other Presidents had minders who talked to their lapels, this one has a squad of face-palmers. Funny words, Questa, but I'm not sure about that. By now Trump has thrown out anyone who might possibly have been offended/upset/surprised by anything he says or does and all that remains are the lackeys with their MAGA hats.

There are also one or two very clever traitors in his inner guard because they never found the person who made all of the press leaks more than a year ago although Trump had promised to nail the person to the barn door within 48 hours. imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/5034/6uhu7q.jpg

I'm not sure that people's sexual behaviour, which seems to not always conform to our own ideas, should be used as a weapon in politics. It is a totally different matter.
0f course, living in France where just about anything goes, including by politicians and including the president, I might be a bit more relaxed in the idea of what is acceptable or not.

Happy to hear about your broadminded attitude, Kerouac, even though it would hardly seem to apply to the cases in question. Sexual behavior with a consenting adult is one thing, rape is another.

I don't care whether politicians are straight, gay or bi, into kink or old-fashioned adulterous behaviour (most people in Québec don't) but diddling minors is another matter.

Sexual behavior with a consenting adult is one thing, rape is another. Breaking the Laws of the Land which one has sworn to uphold and lying about it is the crux of the matter. This applies to all areas of Law, not just the salacious headlines. Remember. they got Al Capone for tax evasion!

I think there are a few anxious people right now wondering if they are on any of the CD's taken from the vault in his New York mansion. What an absolute disgusting creep he is. Raping, assaulting and trafficking underage girls is horrific. I read today that the FBI and SDNY Prosecutors have been talking with former staff who are providing information and co-operating with investigators. I think all of these investigations, the Inspector General at the DOJ, FBI and SDNY started before A.G. Barr came to office, they have gone way too far for him to try to put a stop to this no matter how powerful the people are who could be involved are.
In the press conference today, they gave credit to investigative reporters from Miami who provided them with facts they were uncovering that they say were of incredible assistance.

You wouldn't want him as a friend would you? (Trump...or the other chap)
I see that he was complementary about Queenie but slagged off Teresa May again...he wants Boris as our new leader. Joy.
I wonder if the British ambassador will be replaced after the latest shenanigans?

The British taxpayers pay their ambassadors to give honest assessments of other countries’ governments and leaders. He was just doing his job.
And doing it well, I might add.

The Ambassador would be neglecting his duty if he didn't give an assessment of the current situation to his Government. I think he was rather mild in what he said I propose Bixa to write her observations of the Donald and his cronies er...administration, seeing that the Ambassador was so reticent.

The problem here may be that Epstein has dirt on enough powerful people from all political camps that nobody wants the lid really ripped off. If you have dirt on, say, both Bill Clinton, and Donald Trump, there is no constituency for the truth to come out. Everyone in a position of power will prefer that everything remains hidden. Given the polarization of US politics, nobody wants the truth to be revealed unless they can somehow control the release for political gain. If this is the case, Epstein holds the winning hand regardless of the crimes that he can be proven to have committed. The system is, above all else, designed to protect the extremely wealthy and powerful from any accountability. That corruption is at the heart of not just American politics and law, but of the entire society. Corruption and fixing results for the already powerful isn't an anomaly or a exception, it *is* the system, the sole reason it exists and why it does what it does. Politics, the justice system, the government, it's all corrupted to serve the interests of the .1%, there is no other purpose to any of it. And there's no way to fix it without first explicitly recognizing this, and nobody powerful wants this to happen.

The European media have been totally ignoring the Epstein business. There have been so many cases, investigations, whistleblowing and what all in the past, and nothing has come of them that it has just become a part of American culture, like mass killings.
On the other hand, everybody is very interested in the British ambassador.

Bill Clinton released a statement saying he took rides on Epstein’s private jets 4 times, and that is all. (News reports say 26 times, including several excursions WITH Epstein. The plane’s nickname: Lolita!)
Trump is on tape saying he thinks Epstein is a fun guy and like Trump himself likes lovely ladies. He also noted on tape that some were pretty young.
Accessory to a crime, maybe? And there’s no statute of limitations on this type of crime, and being tried for state charges and federal charges for the same crime is NOT “double jeopardy” the Supreme Court recently ruled.
Oh, and as a flight risk (literally with a fleet of personal jets, as well as several private islands) Epstein may not get out on bail.
Someone is in a world of hurt.

Perhaps that is why Trump is throwing a heap of abuse at his British friends, to focus attention elsewhere. It has worked in the past. Then there's Iran. If all else fails, he can make a state visit to Pyongyang and announce that he has saved the world. Re-election guaranteed.

I see that he was complementary about Queenie but slagged off Teresa May again...he wants Boris as our new leader. Joy. Well, the queen is a major celebrity, so okay in his books. Trump is dismissive of all other world leaders except for the dictators, so no Teresa May for him. He must love Boris, who looks and acts like his true brother. re: Kim Darroch -- he had every reason to think that his written assessments were to remain private, so there is no reason to criticize him for writing them. I am sure all of you have already read a bunch about those cables, but one aspect of the fallout (covered here) is truly grotesque and says so much about how far both the US and the UK have fallen: The British government scrambled to repair the damage, dispatching its trade minister to Washington to apologize to the president’s elder daughter, Ivanka Trump.
