I always look forward to these. Oft times I am disappointed but this years choices by 3 major word sources all seem to meld.
OXFORD: post-truth
MERRIAM WEBSTER: surreal ("a word people turn to when they're trying to bring order to the "chaos of the news" ").
DICTIONARY.com: xenophobia

I find this fascinating every year as well, so I immediately looked up the French words of the year.
uberisation for the strange turn the new economy has taken
radicalisation for the sudden surge in instant internet jihadists
migrants for obvious reasons
I also noticed in passing that the German word of the year is refugees.

Curious, but understandably so, that all those mentioned thus far have some political reference attached to them.

actually, Flüchtlinge (refugees) was german word of the year last year. This year it is postfaktisch (kind of similar to "post truth") ... Here's the list - seems to me basically a list of the political events of the year:
postfaktisch Brexit Silvesternacht Schmähkritik Trump-Effekt Social Bots schlechtes Blut Gruselclown Burkiniverbot Oh, wie schön ist Panama

non-word of the year has not been decided yet, last year it was "Gutmensch" (kind of like "do-gooder", but in a very ironic way)
