Oddly enough, even though most of us consider the British to be the best sailors in the world, the French create the best maritime races. Today was the beginning of the race between the Queen Mary 2 and 4 trimarans from Saint Nazaire to New York. Saint Nazaire is symbolic, because it is where the QE2 was built 13 and a half years ago.
The race is 5837km (3152mi). It should end Saturday at the Verrazano Bridge around dawn.
The QE2 has the advantage, because it should be able to advance at 29 knots (53.7km/h) whereas it is the disadvantageous direction for sailboats.
But anything is possible...

The French create the races because they need the practice.

It should be exciting to follow. And, I love a good rivalry especially between the British and the French. How large is the crew on these boats?
