I've been meaning to post pics of our daily walks with Django for a while. We live quite close to the city centre but as well as a large park close by there is a small nature reserve and the Municipal Golf course (that used to be back onto our back garden)is also a large area that has been allowed to return to the wild...some of it was built on and they TRY to prevent people walking there....but there are several public footpaths on the old golf course so the community uses the area quite a lot.. So....we set out and walk to the end of the street. Here are several industrial units and factories on the opposite side of the (busy) road... turning left we head along the busy road... turning left again we cross onto the playing field... the other side of the field is a convenience store and take-aways tbc

Awww ~ your adorable pooch must be in heaven! So interesting to see the areas around where you live. The old golf course is magical! Do you know if any local groups have attempted to work with The Wildlife Trusts or with National Nature Reserves to see if that land can be acquired and protected forever? Golf courses are toxic and it's beautiful to see one that has been reborn. I'm so impressed that you can identify butterflies! Also impressed with the lovely pictures. You say it's very dry, but according to the UK weather report I saw this morning, it looks as though you're going to be hammered with rain. One question: does Romino's serve horse, as it would appear from the large picture in their window?

I met a chap from the City Council over there a few weeks ago...according to him the land has been acquired by a local rich businessman (he owns a lot of Leicester already) and he's hanging fire for now. I'm going to write to the council to see if anything can be done because it is a lovely asset for the community. The area is surrounded by factories and social housing...I don't think that there is much hope that we will keep it tho

Nice to see such a large green area close to the city centre. It is a shame that the city would sell it to a private businessman, but I guess they just want the money for other things. Enjoy it while you can, Cheery.

A great little nature study walk. Wow! Velococraptors in Leicester! I used to buy granite from that area and always knew it was a very primeval place.
