The Afterlife of Shipping Containers

After seeing the zillion upon zillion shipping containers in Mossies Felixstowe Harbour photos, I got to thinking how many seem to dot the landscape out in the sticks, and here in the city.
I snapped these yesterday on the drive back from the coast. It is far more interesting than the freeway.
Most are mini shops followed by people selling tires. Sorry the photos are not all that good as hurriedly taken with my cellphone.

Good to see they are being used.

I read somewhere that they are outfitted and made into student housing in Rotterdam.

I have seen several of them converted into living spaces here. Some of them are pretty cool. A couple of them are raised (preventing flooding).

Yes,they have been re-used, even in richer countries, and stacked upon one another.
